TIFU by asking my friend to water our plants while we were on vacation

Long story short, we get home and the inside of our home is soaked! I knew there was a big rain storm while we were gone and sure enough, I look up, and our roof window was wide open!

The water ruined our (untreated) wooden floors, wallpaper, couch and side table. And that's just the damage we can see. Who knows about the inside of the walls and under the floor.

So asked my friend about it knowing it had to be his fault and of course the genius confessed because it was so obvious. How does someone not remember to close the window? And why the hell did it need to be opened to water plants?!?!?! And when the rainstorm came you would think that would have been a reminder, but nope.

We were barely getting by before and can't afford to fix it. Our insurance won't cover it because they don't cover that kind of stupidity (it's worded more professionally in the policy). So we're going to have to sell because it's unlivable. Since we are literally underwater in our mortgage now (thanks to my idiot friend) we won't be able to move anywhere due to our crippling debt.

Any advice for the homeless would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

TL;DR My friend was just supposed to be watering our plants but ended up leaving a window in letting in rainwater and ruining our lives

How about a new rule that requires using the search function before posting?

This is getting out of hand. There are so many similar posts because people can't be bothered to see if what they're posting has already been posted. I'm sick of this shit littering my home page.

I see this all the time. People in the left turn lane right before they start turning left they swerve right cutting over into the other lane to take a wider turn for absolutely no reason. It's always smaller cars I see doing this.

Then there are also the jackasses who don't even bother getting all the way into the turn lane to begin with.

Actually, people staying there lane seems to be a problem in general. And it's usually people in smaller cars.

Does anyone have an explanation for this?
