Need advice. Its been a long time.

Hi there. I injured my knee about 8 months ago. Im 33 yo. I was backpacking with a very heavy pack, going down a very steep mountain, and my knee started to hurt a lot. Initially it was a mild injury with some pain, and then I slipped on a wet rock and it got worse. Note that this was 8 months ago.

Ive had an mri. The doctor said my miniscus has "softened" which, I dont see much info on that online. Ive used a bike recently a little bit as many people recommend it for knee health and the knee very slightly pops when I use the knee. Its not painful but it is concerning, and the day after I will feel sore.

I am a pretty tough person, sometimes I feel like im making it up and then next day my knee is particularly sore, and im reminded otherwise.

This has been going on for far too long. Ive tried my best to baby the knee but I labor for work. Im also a fencer. This is driving me crazy. I feel like the doctor gave me a useless diagnosis and its worse than they are letting on so the dont have to do anything about it, as the local clinic is chronically overbooked.

Gorgets... excessive?

Hey there. Im curious as to how the larger hema community feels about gorgets.

More protection = safer (to a point).

1: have you had an experience where you were wearing a gorget, took a thrust, and concluded that if you weren't wearing a gorget, you would have been injured?

2: Have you skipped the gorget, took a thrust to the neck and concluded that your protection was adequate anyhow?

today i woke up and decided i appreciate shorter handles.

i have a wukusi feder. those handles are mega big. nearly 14 inches or 35.56 cm.

ive long wondered why historical longswords seemed to have much shorter handles in general. so i choked up on the grip and held it as if the handle was more like a 10 inch (25 cm) handle. it felt like a shorter handle made cutting to more extreme lines of attack easier, my edge alignment truer.

i certainly can be imagining it but i noticed the muscle groups in my arm seem to be used in different ways why i use a long handle vs short handle.

yes of course people had to wear longswords on their belt and a shorter handle would be more comfortable, but im not so convinced that it is the only reason as to why so many historical examples have shorter grips.

curious if anyone has had similar thoughts or experiments on shorter handles.

People who quit Instagram but spend hours on forums or YouTube are not “less addicted” to social media

There is a weird superiority complex among people who proudly announce they deleted Instagram or TikTok to "protect their mental health," yet they spend hours scrolling text forums or watching YouTube shorts.

Every click is a prayer and every scroll is a pilgrimage.

A lot of people did not escape social media culture. They simply migrated to a version of it that feels intellectually justified.

Spes heavies cracked after 4 sessions

Hi there. I have a pair of spes heavies, Purchased from purpleheart. They are good gloves yet after just a few sessions a plate on the right thumb cracked. I messaged purpleheart and spes to see if they can do anything about it. No response yet.

These are new gloves and yet have failed so quickly, is this normal for these? If I can't get a replacement, does anyone know what plastic they are made from? I plan to plastic weld a repair staple in the Crack and it would be good to know. I'm holding off in case a replacement/repair is issued.

Hi. Im purchasing a pair of hf black knights for our small club. Most of the users of this particular glove will fit in a m/l, but it has been suggested to buy an xl where everyone can use a interior glove to fill it out. Also, that sounds more hygenic for everyones sweaty hands involved.

Is this a good idea?

NOT INTENDED FOR ACTUAL USE!

Curiosity got the better of me and I wanted to know exactly how hard it is to make a functional glove. Also, because its fun.

As expected, its hard. And fun.

I copied as much design from my actual Gabriel's as I could, with some merging of patterns from the armor archive. They work. I dont trust them enough to spar with something like longsword but I've fenced saber/rapier/arming and they are quite protective. (Forearm/wrist protection required)

Kydex on a impact resistant mechanics glove. fingertip protectors inside.

Also I was interested in experimenting with "half clamshells" as they seem like an under-utilized design and I gotta say I really dont understand why, it makes a lot of sense for 5 finger-style gloves, and saves quite a bit of time on the construction. the half clamshell is also made to be permanently flexed, so you dont have to fight the glove just to hold the sword.

For anyone else interested in doing something similar, kydex is great but super hard to work with for compound shapes. Steel is far easier.

Total cost: about 50 bucks.

Anyhow it was fun. Hope you get a laugh or something out of this

hi there. im getting a pair of gloves as loaners for a relatively new club. weve rounded up 250$. I have gabriels so i dont really know what model clamshells are worth it. Im considering a few options.

The #1 consideration i have is durability. clamshells are pretty dang protective but i really dont want them falling apart anytime soon. I can contribute a bit more money if necessary for a better, more durable glove.

They will have many different size hands in them so if they fit well for a small and large hand that would be a huge factor. Im leaning towards raphaels as they seem to be decent and we can save money for more communal gear. are spes lobsters significantly better than raphaels?

what glove should i get?

things im looking at:

spes lobters v3 $238

"Michael" Heavy Clamshell 280$

Raphael Mitten Gloves 199$

HF Black Knight 260$
