Supfen Gloves

I'm looking for feedback on these: https://supfen.com/product/gloves/hfg0704.html

I bought 2 pairs back in 2020. They were too small (my bad, a Supfen M is not a Spes M) and were lacking on protection on the tip of the fingers. And the fabric broke quite soon.
I see now that the model has changed quite a bit. Now the shell covers the front of the fingertips, the inner gloves have also changed, and so I feel more confident. But I'd like to get some feedback before investing more.
(NB I have many other gloves, but I need to buy some loaners for the club, that's why I look for something cheap).

Nasty glue stains

I recently got a new sword and noticed some dried glue on the pommel and crossguard—likely a remnant from when the leather was attached. Does anyone have any idea on how I could remove it?

Instructing Rapier

So friends I’m having a bit of imposter syndrome… I’ve been asked to help out with rapier instruction at my club and at the risk of outing myself I have never felt particularly confident in such a role. Does anyone know any good teaching aides or have any big advice for Italian basic? I want to largely focus footwork, distance, and timing, things I feel competent with from MOF. Where I struggle is blade engagements, I prefer single tempo actions from a refused position, I suck at binding and winding and don’t know how to teach it. I also feel I need a lot of work on my offline passes into thrusts (I usually offline into a cutting action or a counter cut then thrust…) anyway sorry for rambling thanks in advanced.

Colombian "street fencing" (reverse grip) vs creole fencing-Sparring ,training knives

A rare look at esgrima colombiana, which usually happens unrecorded in prisons! A very agile, if brutal, contemporary fencing style

New Cup-Hilt rapier from Blackfencer!!

This is the "Diestro" model. Very light, very nimble, is a delight to fence with it, and compared with the rest of the options in the actual market is cheap. I loved it.

Gear bag solutions. Any experiences with the Uhlmann system? Alternatives?

So, the gear transportation solution hasn't been fully worked out yet. Especially as I don't want to have to buy/use a car just for HEMA.

I am currently using a Fait D'armes bag (swords, mask, gloves, plastron, knee protection, water bottle and some other random stuff on it) on an Ikea trolley and a Decathlon mesh bag (jacket, trousers, shoes, and other stuff that benefits from being able to dry) but it is clearly not optimal.

I have been checking for other options, mainly options with roller cases. I am happy with the mesh bag (especially as it definitely helps to diminish the stink) but the roller part is getting quite annoying with having to strap stuff together and the like.

There are 2 that seem interesting, the Uhlmann system based on the olympic fencing rolling bags that I'm already familiar with.
Weapon top:
https://uhlmann-fechtsport.com/en/high-top-bag-for-rollbag-for-historical-fencing/142506-1-sz
Rollbag:
https://uhlmann-fechtsport.com/en/rollbag-travel/142502-db

And ski/snowboard systems from Decathlon:
https://www.decathlon.nl/p/draagtas-900-voor-vier-paar-ski-s-of-snowboards-met-wieltjes-zwart/360028/c382m8927496

Anybody using the Uhlmann system or something similar? What about stuff for sky and snowboards? Something walk and train friendly is priority for me.

What other solutions are you guys using? What has worked and what has definitely has not?

Do we have any Swedish sources or translations?

I recently started learning Swedish with the long-term goal of studying in Sweden and I thought this would be a good way to combine two of my interests.

I mostly do German longsword but this seems like a great excuse to branch into other systems and weapons. I am aware that the Caroleans of the early 1700s made heavy use of rapiers in combat but exactly how or what they trained is beyond me.

My customised mask

I recently got my first mask. Someone else in my club has this exact same model (it's from 5m fencing), so to avoid confusion I've done some cross stitch embroidery on the sides - I decided on the house atreides sigil from dune, the wings of freedom from attack on titan and the "menacing" kanji from JoJo

What is your favorite move or guard?

My favorite is definitely switching to hanging guard then a fallow up over the head counter strike

Silkfencing sabre vs alternatives (polish hussar)

Ive committed to buying a sharpened battle ready sabre from either silkfencing or some other place. Im at a crossroad: either i buy the silkfencing hussar saber that will be bulletproof for years to come for a staggerint 1000$ or i can get one from other sources. Im thinking of getting the sabre from peserey but the problem is simple, i save 500$ at peserey witch is great, but the blade is way thinner, worse steel (still good just not silkfencing type) and less handguard.

Should i drop 1000$ on the silkfencing one that has everything i could ask for (guard, paluch, thick blade) or do i save 500$ and get the peserey one for a thinner blade that is not as strong but i can get two of them for the price of 1 silkfencing one.

What do you think is the right blade?

I want to train with it aswell (not sparring) so it will be a blade that might get used heavily.

Any feedback from owners of either is valued.

Favourite complex guards?

Due to a convoluted series of events, I'm soon going to be in possession of 2/3rds of a sword (grip + modern sparring blade) based around a 1912 pattern British cavalry sabre, and am going to be getting in touch with an armourer/smith to have a guard made for it. Given the nature of the grip (and my own personal preferences), it isn't really suited to a simple guard (bar/styrup, etc) and there are a few different options of guard style I'm consisdering

But to get a few more ideas for what I could go with - what are everyone's favourite complex guards they've seen? I'm partial to a mortuary guard and the 1899 British heavy cavalry one, but what other cool ones are out there?

Guard Tables for Marozzo's Greatsword

The upper guards tables is is a work in progress. There may be a better way to present that information.

Lower guards is pretty standard across Bolognese sources so we're happy with it.

The list of guards with illustrations will probably get another column to indicate which guards are actually used.

The two assault lists should be self-explanatory. Note that Part 10 of Assault 2 is not actually part of the assault. It is a collection of seven stand alone plays.

The last table is what we are working towards: a list of actions used from each guard and where it takes you.

If you have any questions or suggestions we'd like to hear it!

Book accurate stance

Hello HEMA friends! I started doing HEMA around three months ago with the longsword mixing up German and Italian systems.

I do struggle with getting into the correct footwork or positions as described in Meyer’s book. When I try to elongate myself to get to the correct pflug or Ox I constantly get hit and have no chance to parry or even give afterblow. And when I try to get to the position where my feet are comfortable and I can move easily, it turns out I am unable to land a hit on the opponent.

Should I abandon the book like stances and go for the other approach? Or if you have any suggestions how to be more book accurate and also land hits, I would love to take those into my training.

Have a HEMAstic day and long live zwerchopter

How hard is it to have perfect edge alignement in real combat.

Hi, I'm a noob whose understanding of swords is almost entirely based on web researches.

I'd like to ask you guys, how hard is it to mantain edge alignement through an actual fight against an opponent on a comparable level ? And what factors make it difficult ?

Also, I've never seen a term for that, but I suppose there should be some equivalent to edge alignement for thrusts. If that's the case, how is it called ?

How viable is a shepherd's axe really?

I wanted to learn more about it after playing hellish quart but could find very few sources.

What are your experiences using it against other weapons or defending against it?

Fencing jacket identification

Many of you may be familiar with hellish quart, the realistic swordfighting game. The HEMA gear the characters use is based on actual HEMA gear, from brands like SPES, Blackfencer, Red Dragon and the like. I have more or less identified all of it, except for the light jackets the rapier girls use. Anyone knows what jackets are they? Where could I get them? Thanks.
