Should I get a portable monitor for Claude coding and trading?

Just got a MacBook Pro 14” and I’m looking to set up a proper desk setup at home for coding assignments and some trading. Found this Cevaton portable monitor on Amazon —14” FHD 1080p 60hz for 133$ (or 15.6” for 187$).

Also want to make sure it won’t mess with my MacBook’s hinges—this one’s got its own kickstand so that’s sorted.

Any recommendations?

Need advice: MacBook Pro or ROG Strix G16 for university (CS/AI major)?

I’m trying to decide between two laptops for computer science at university (programming, AI/ML, and some gaming).

Option 1: ASUS ROG Strix G16 (2025) – Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX, NVIDIA RTX 5070, 32GB DDR5 RAM, 16” QHD+ IPS 240Hz display, 1TB NVMe SSD

Option 2: MacBook Pro 14” – Apple M5, 24GB unified memory, 1TB SSD

I want something that’ll last me 4–5 years. I also play games like Valorant, League of Legends, Fortnite, Minecraft, and Roblox, but I do care about battery life, portability, and how well it handles day-to-day university use.

I’m currently leaning toward the MacBook because of its battery life, build quality, and portability, but I’m worried I might regret not being able to game as much. On the other hand, the Strix G16 gives me much better gaming performance and more RAM, but I’ve heard the battery life isn’t great.

If you’ve owned either of these, especially as a CS or AI student, which would you choose and why? Any regrets or things I should know before making the decision?

M5 BASE vs M5 PRO??

I’m an undergraduate majoring in computer science and considering minoring in AI. I also play games like Roblox, Minecraft, and League of Legends, listen to Apple Music, and use cloud-based AI tools like Claude, ChatGPT, and Chrome with a maximum of 10 tabs open. Given my activities, which chip should I choose?

The price difference is approximately 820 dollars.

Edit: full configuration —> (M5 base/pro 24gb ram and 1tb ssd)
