Learning multiple languages at once: have you tried?

TLDR; Will trying to add another language into my learning really screw up my French learning?

Hi folks! I am a native English speaker and have been studying French intensively for the last year. I live near Quebec and am finding it much easier/faster when I can spend my days out and about listening to conversation. In the last year I’ve gone from A1 to B1 (hooray! 🎉)

I’ve made a great group of friends who all speak Arabic, and I’d love to start learning their language as well. My concern is really just this: Is trying to shove two languages in my brain at once a terrible idea? Do the languages have much in common, and does that matter if they don’t? I’d love to keep my pace with French, and that’s my main goal as it’s my partner’s first language.

If you’ve had an experience or any advice I’d love to hear it! Merci beaucoup

Strictly Vegan Brunch with Severe Nut Allergy - Ideas?

Gooood morning! This weekend we are hosting our friends for brunch, and between all of us, we’ve got:

- strict vegan
- severe egg allergy
- severe butt NUT allergy
- mild to mid allergies to some fresh fruit: kiwis, strawberries, and pretty much every stone fruit.

I’m a pretty accomplished home cook but god am I struggling with this one. Many things that I could make with an alternative milk take nut milks, and that’s a no go. The only thing popping into my head is toast & jam and maybe some tofu eggs.

For the love of god please save an idiot 😂

Edit: Thank you everyone for all the suggestions, I have about a hundred to choose from. You’re the best! Also, I’d like to address this comment in plain view:

> Someone with that level of restrictions can bring their own food. I'm not accommodating that, and it's unreasonable to ask people who don't forcibly restrict their diets to do so because they do.

Hi, it’s me, cup-of-starlight, the person who invited people over to visit and offered to cook. Two of these allergens are mine, one belongs to a friend, another belongs to another friend, and the other friend is vegan. I don’t exactly owe a breakdown of our allergies in order to justify posting here, but I’m more than happy to cook for my friends and do not consider it a burden to accommodate. Thank you for the assumption! 💕 butgoddamn I didn’t know people with allergies were such a trigger for so many of y’all in my inbox wtf. Calm down and eat a kitkat. unless you’re allergic.

32 [F4R] #canada/ #online/ #anywhere/ Introspective poet seeks a deep and easy love

If I asked you to tell me about yourself, what would you start with? Your job, your home, your hobbies, your past? Have you ever wondered why so many of us reach for vocation as a way to justify the space we take up in this life?

About me: I’ve done a million things and wound up passionate about a few. I have a tendency to insert RPG elements into games that don’t require it. My heart wants to write a book, my soul wants to kayak among the reeds, my body wants a family sized bag of potato chips and wins out most days. I recently picked up boxing because I refuse exercise that isn’t fun.

I cook to heal, to taste, to learn, to nourish, to love. Talk to me about your love of food and the service of feeding others. Tell me about the best meal you’ve ever had. Let’s hop on discord call together and try out a new recipe from that weird cookbook you found in a market.

I’m drawn to artistic souls. Deep conversations. Musings about life and living and the interconnectedness of all things. I spend a lot of time with myself, in my own mind, out in nature, and the peace I find there feels truer than most other things.

Yesterday I read the poem “How to Live” by Todd Dillard and it nearly knocked me over from the weight of my tears. This morning, I opened up my phone and laughed all the stupid quarantine memes I’d collected while day-drinking through CERB payments back in the day.

Send me glimmers, pick me smooth rocks from the beach, run to tell me when there’s a new flower blooming in the neighbour’s garden. Spam my phone with 87 pictures of the same wonky cat you saw on the street. Smoke a blunt with me in the park and tell me about the first person you ever fell in love with. Send me every stupid shitpost that ever made you laugh and I’ll send you mine.

I have my head and heart in the clouds, and let very few people in to see the wonders up there. I am much, yes. Too much for some. And everything for others.

Let’s daydream and see if reality is on our side, soulmate.

Oh god one in the wild

Ladies and gentlekin, my dearest (and dumbest) well-meaning mom friend. Don’t worry, I intervened to save the children from her sugar-free flour… cake.

UPDATE!! In the interest of making sure these kids have a nice birthday cake tomorrow, she’s letting me make the cake. And yes, I considered that this was all a long con to get me to make her a cake, and honestly, valid concern guys definitely something she’d do. Anyway. One sugar-loaded mud cake coming up to celebrate turning 10 in style.
