Any luck building an audience for your films on YouTube?

I made a YouTube channel well over a decade ago just to post our old terrible short films back in college. I had a video that had nothing to do with my short films get tons of views and I got hundreds of subscribers overnight. Since then I’ve been trying to shift back towards my short films and behind the scenes content. Anyone else trying this or having success building an audience? I feel like everyone is trying that route following Curry Barker’s success with Obsession. Send your YouTube channels and let’s connect! I want to see other people’s short films and their channels!

Need help in pivoting my channel content

Hey everybody! I need some help. I’m a filmmaker and had been using my YouTube channel for short films when I first got started in the 2010s for our admittedly terrible shorts. I also made a few of my own mock ups to soundtracks I liked and one of them kind of took off unexpectedly during Covid. It’s got around 170k views and helped me grow hundreds of followers.

Only thing was I was trying to grow as a filmmaker. Now I still post our soundtracks and stuff since that’s what worked one time. After some bad experiences (which I’m finding I’m not alone in) with some film aggregators, I’ve decided to build my YouTube for my newest, and much better short films. Any suggestions on what I’m doing now and how I can help bring that audience along toward my short films vs how they found my channel to begin with? Thank you for the help!!

WHAT’S LEFT - short film

This is my take on a potential future if climate change and political polarization go unchecked. We started working on this in 2018 and shot it in 2024. We shot the whole short in 4 days and spent a few months in post.

I’d love to get some feedback on your thoughts & suggestions on how to use your YouTube channel to get your work out there. Film Festivals and distributors don’t seem to have the benefit or ladder they used to offer so I’d love to hear your thoughts.

Thank you!

What’s Left - a story about modern civil war after climate change causes societal collapse

Hey everybody!

It felt fitting to release our latest short film ‘What’s Left’ on America’s 250th. We started working on the story in 2018 based on our fears of the damage climate change would do to our lands and society. Plus the whole “another civil war” thing has been floating around for a while so we wanted to look at a modern civil war after societal collapse that, unlike the first one that was divided by geography, wouldn’t be divided by ideology.

I’d love to hear feedback on how you think we did and if you can spot homages to my favorite films that we put into the short.

Shape a Better Future for Tennessee: Short Films + Live Panel

Hey everybody!

I’ll be helping host a screening of three short films (2 docs and 1 narrative) about environmental issues in Tennessee on June 24th at 6:00pm at the Warner Park Nature Center.

We will provide drinks and snacks. After the screenings there will be a panel discussing what issues we face in Middle Tennessee and how we can all make a difference. The idea is to build community by bringing people together across interests and professions to find meaningful ways we can get involved. If you’re interested then please email wpnc@nashville.gov or call 615-862-8555

Thank you!
