Ray Ban Metas and $200 reward card

When I signed up for the 5gig service, it came with a free pair of Ray Ban Meta's as well as a $200 reward card. I signed up on 7/13/26. Got the rewards notification to claim the Ray Bans a couple of weeks ago, and they are set to be delivered today. Never heard anything about the reward card and was never asked to redeem it. I called the Rewards Center Customer Service phone number found on the rewards website (800-288-9983 - you can also chat with them from that website). Got a really nice agent who looked in to my account and noted that the $200 reward card was never added to my account. She got it added and said I should receive the card in a few weeks. For reference, I signed up for the 5 gig service directly through the AT&T website.

So for those of you who signed up for this same promo, if you have received the email to redeem the Ray Bans but not the gift card, give the rewards customer service a call and they will get you taken care of.

Question about rewards for signing up

When I signed up (and I kept a screenshot) for the 5 gig service, it showed I would get a free pair of Ray Ben Meta glasses and a $200 reward card. I got the email this morning to claim the free Ray Ban's but nothing about the $200 reward card. Does that redemption email typically come a little later? Thanks!

Fiber internet pricing

For those of you that have fiber internet available to you, it might be worth looking around and seeing if you can get better pricing. With Google Fiber coming to town, fiber from Spectrum and AT&T has become very reasonable.

We have Spectrum fiber 1 gig for $40 a month out the door which is a great price. Spectrum is now offering 2 gig fiber internet out here also but since I'm on a promo price for 1 gig there is no path for me to upgrade that does not raise my price to $125. That's not worth it. For new customers when I go to the Spectrum website I can see them offering 2 gig internet here for $80 a month.

Not to be outdone, AT&T fiber is offering 5 gig fiber internet here for $50 a month for 1 year (that includes a $10 discount for auto-pay). In addition, if you sign up with AT&T it shows on their website that they will also include a $200 reward card and a certificate for a pair of Ray Ban Meta Wayfarer Gen 2 smart glasses. This was on https://www.att.com/buy/internet/plans. Yes, 5 gig internet is complete overkill for 99.9999% of people and most people here wont have the internal networking equipment in their home to get all that bandwidth (my devices and internal network top out at 2.5 gigs). But that is a CRAZY good price with some CRAZY good free stuff. Strangely enough, AT&T's 500 meg fiber price is the same as the 5 gig fiber price!

AT&T installed out 5 gig fiber yesterday and it's running great. So AT&T is now our primary internet service and our 1 gig Spectrum service is a backup in the event AT&T goes down. My home network is setup that in the event that happens, it auto fails over to Spectrum and then automatically switches back over to AT&T when it comes back up.

Just thought I would share with our neighbors here. The AT&T and Spectrum pricing are only valid if you can get fiber from those companies at your house like we can.

This is a screenshot from the AT&T website I mentioned above when I signed up.

Getting 5 gig fiber on Monday

Does anyone know what fiber modem AT&T using in the Austin, TX area for 5 gig fiber? They are offering 5 gig fiber for $50 a month (for 12 months) with a free $200 visa card and a free pair of Ray Ban Meta Wayfarer smart glasses. That deal was too crazy to pass up. I currently have Spectrum 1 gig for $40 a month so I'll probably just keep that as a backup since internet is critical to us (we have a backup now but its TMobile internet which is a bit slow in my house).

And while I know I still need to use AT&T's gateway, I'm assuming I can still disable their wireless and just set the gateway to passthrough mode to connect it to my Zen Wifi Pro ET 12 mesh setup like I was able to do 2 years ago when we had AT&T fiber?

Disappointed that Spectrum is simply willing to lose a customer to AT&T

I'm in the Austin, TX area and have 1 gig Spectrum fiber for $40 a month after taxes and fees. I've got AT&T offering me 5 gig fiber for $50 a month after taxes and fees. I log on to my Spectrum account to see if there are any higher speeds I can get and sure enough, I can upgrade to 2 gig fiber from Spectrum for $125 a month! I call and speak to customer service to see if they could do anything on the price since AT&T is offering me 5 gigs for $50. Customer service told me there was nothing they could do for me since I'm already getting a discount on my 1 gig from them. I asked if there was a retention department to talk to and was told there was not, only a cancellation department. I said to the agent "So Spectrum is perfectly fine losing a customer because there is nobody there that can do anything to get me a better price on your 2 gig service." She said she didn't want to lose me as a customer but there was nothing they could do on the price. It's sad that Spectrum is just willing to lose a customer because they can't or won't do anything on the price to keep me. Between AT&T and Google Fiber on the way here, Spectrum is going to lose a lot of folks out here if they don't do something to retain customers. And you cant even post about price matching over in the official Spectrum reddit.

2 Gig Spectrum Fiber

Has anyone on 1 gig Spectrum fiber done the upgrade to 2 gig Spectrum fiber? I'm considering upgrading as I have the networking equipment to support the higher speeds to our wired desktops. In theory it looks like all I need to do is do the upgrade online and then reboot my modem once its complete. I don't believe they need to come out and change out the modem or anything since I already have fiber from them and I also don't use their advanced WiFi (I use my own).

Just curious if anyone has done this and if it was as simple as it seems.

Thanks!

Spectrum chat support is useless

We had an outage yesterday and then another shorter one today. When I went on to chat to report the outage yesterday and again today (and it was absolutely and neighborhood outage and not just me), I get "Well, we are not seeing an outage in your area so we will need to get a tech setup to come to your house to check your fiber." I told them no, absolutely not as the issue is not with my fiber as everyone who has Spectrum here is experiencing the same outage, so I'm reporting that. Again I get "Well, since we dont see an outage in your area we have to send a tech as thats the only way to report a neighborhood outage." Ummm what? I'm reporting to you its out for everyone in my neighborhood and you have no way to "log" that in your system without sending a tech to my house to check my fiber. That is pointless and useless if the entire neighborhood is out. I just ended up telling them both days to forget it and disconnected. Eventually when more people call in they realize its an actual outage, but come on. Why do they have to make this so difficult when an entire neighborhood is out!
