How much do you prep for a Solo game?

When you play a game of a solo game, and let's use ironsworn as an example, how much do you prep for it before hand? Being new to ttrpg and Solo play, I don't really know how to prep for it. It seems to me that every game requires generating characters and NPCs and locations and goals (aka plot). I can see scenarios that could utilize pre used elements or ones that were generated for previous games and just using them over again as needed.

I get it, just because it's a solo game that's greatly managed by an oracle, it doesn't mean that there's no game master. The player also has to be a game master and part of the role of the GM is to build the game.

But what if I have an evening to kill and I wanted to play a quick game and I'm starting from scratch? I foresee spending an hour or more preparing before I can even start playing.

Maybe there are better solo games for quickie simple play sessions? Or maybe I should spend some time spinning some pre made elements that I can draw on for a quick game?

Breakfast Taco: do they exist in CA?

I lived in Houston for a time and I really came to enjoy breakfast tacos as a breakfast option over something that an egg McMuffin. Just about every taqueria or Taco truck would have them. Basically they're street tacos with eggs and cheese. Or eggs and bacon. Or eggs and sausage. Or eggs and refried beans. Or eggs and potatoes. I'm not talking about the giant breakfast burritos that seem to be the norm around here. Those are too big and more than I want.

I've searched around at all the taquerias and food trucks but nobody has them. I've even suggested it to the food trucks that I see at the farmers markets, but they haven't attempted to do them yet. How hard could it be to slap some egg and cheese and bacon on a corn tortilla and wrap it in foil and sell it for a couple of bucks each?

So I'm wondering if it's even a thing here in California at all? If someone adventurous food truck were to start selling them, I'm sure they'd be a big hit.

Filling in/removing your pool

I'd like to hear from the folks in Roseville and/or the surrounding areas as to whether or not they had an in ground pool that they removed or filled in. I recently purchased a house here that came with a pool. I thought I would enjoy it but I really don't. I spend money for its upkeep but I don't ever get in it. It also takes up lots of room in the back yard. I'd prefer have the room for gardening. So I'm looking into having it filled in. So has anyone removed their pool? How did it work out for you? Does it look alright? Has it affected the sales of the house, or its value? Do you have any regrets?

Ironsworn Bonds question

So I'm reading through the Ironsworn documentation and I've got a pretty good understanding of the workings of it. I have yet to play a game with it though as I'm still learning the rules, etc. But one thing has got me a little confused.

I understand that the progress items, like going on a journey, or fighting a battle, or fulfilling a vow. It seems to me that you run a separate progress counter for each of those items, and that sounds logical.

But what's got me wondering is the whole Bonds and how to count them. I can see having different bonds with different NPC's or factions, where you would build a bond with each separately with the progress counters. But all indications show that the character has a singular Bonds progress chart that the character has for ALL bonds with all NPC's and factions, etc. That confuses me because when I look at such moves like GATHER INFORMATION where it says "If you act within a community or ask questions of a person with whom you share a bond, add +1". So how do I differentiate between a person I share a bond with, or another and one that I don't? I get it, I should just go with whatever narrative I create, or "Ask the Oracle". Do I use MY bond progress counter, which could include my progress of creating bonds with multiple characters.

I realize that I can play the game any way I wish, and if I wanted to, I could track the progress of every bond I choose. I'm inclined to run a bond track for every bond in my narrative. But I wanted to check in with the group to find out how they've handled this particular quirk of the game.

Very much a newby. Need some help

So I've never really played ttrpgs before. I've only ever really played old BBS door games which really resemble RPG games. I used to play legend of the Red dragon or tradewars2002 or netrunner on the BBSes I called. Ive even wrote some of my own. Playing those was the closest to Solo RPG playing I've ever done.

Having said that, I'm interested in playing true ttrpg games, but it's not really an option to play with others. So Solo play is pretty much my only option. I'm trying to understand how I am supposed to do that. I get it, there are some options I can use to play a multiplayer game without a GM. I've downloaded some single page RPG games like Ultimate Solo RPG one page toolkit. I've looked it over, but I'm still confused on how to go about playing. I've tried to search for some walkthrough videos but all I can ever find are product reviews. Those are great, but they don't really teach me how to play. If there are any videos that offer gameplay walkthroughs, I'd love to hear about them. If you have any, please post a link to them in the comments.

Recs for sci-fi centric games.

Newby here. I've been looking at all the recs that people have provided here recently, and I can't help but realize that they are mostly of the generic d&d variety. I'm wondering if they are any recs for any games of the hard SF variety. I'm aware of starlogs, but that's pure star Trek. Is there any market for hard sci-fi or cyberpunk? I'm into cyberpunk stuff like from, say Snow Crash or Neurmancer. Or anything to do with outer space.

Anybody use The Story Engine for Solo RPG gaming?

I'm a bit of a writer and I sometimes use TSE for my prompts. It's essentially a set of cards that you can use to assemble prompts. It has 5 separate decks of cards, one for a list of people/professions (agent), one for objects and things (anchor), another for character motivation (engine), one for conflicts (conflicts), and a last one to add modifiers to the people and objects (aspect). I can pair up the engine and conflict cards to make a simple prompt, add some interesting things like NPCs and things like settings and such. I've written a few short stories with this aid.

They also have some other products called The Deck of Worlds which is a set of cards that you can use to create fantasy worlds, and The Lore Masters Deck which helps for world building. They suggest that the lore master deck is great for running Solo RPG games. I've never used it for this purpose and I suppose it would fall under the category of a journaling type of game.

I was wondering if anyone actually tried it. If so, what do you think about it and were you able to play any games with them?
