Starting your B.Ed. this September? What questions do you have? ✏️

With the end of August here and classes starting soon, I thought it'd be helpful to have a place for incoming B.Ed. students to ask any last-minute questions before the semester starts.

Current teacher candidates and teachers, feel free to jump in and answer based on your own experience.

Best advice you’ve received

What’s the best advice you’ve received at the start of/throughout your career?

Edit: To add to this, what advice do you wish you had received or what advice would you give to someone just starting out.

Questions You May Be Afraid To Ask - Weekly Thread

We're trying something new on the sub! We thought it might be fun to start a weekly thread where we can ask questions we’re afraid/hesitant to post about!

Whether you’re confused about your B.Ed application, B.Ed placements, OCT, MPT, transitional certificate, LTOs, or just something everyone else seems to know already - ask it here!

And if you know the answer to someone else's question, jump in and help them out!

I’ll see how this goes and hopefully make it a regular weekly thread! 🍎

Back to paper

Hi all, hope you’re doing well in the last few days of school!

I’ve noticed some boards without clear directives for flagging AI in student work (but I suppose AI checkers come with their own ethical implications as well).

I’ve seen some teachers do a major shift to assigning tasks on paper (essays drafted in class, not bringing school work home, etc.).

As someone looking to teach at the high school level, what are some assignments you’ve adapted to being completed on paper only (outside of tests)? Any assessment/evaluation methods that have been proven to be AI proof?

TIA

Q&A Thread

Not much is happening during the off-season between admission cycles, so I thought I’d open up a general Q&A thread for anyone currently in a B.Ed program, preparing to apply, or just curious about teacher education in Ontario.

Have questions about:
• B.Ed programs
• Practicum
• Admissions
• Teacher college life
• Etc.

Feel free to ask below! No question is too basic.

Current teacher candidates, recent grads, and practicing teachers are also welcome to jump in and share their experience and advice.
