I don’t usually go in for the genre nit-picking, but what are some examples of songs that sound Power Metal AF, but aren’t by bands generally considered Power Metal?
Couple of bangers of the top of my head:
Hail to the Hordes - Kreator
Beneath the Howling Stars - Cradle of Filth (tbh the entire Cruelty and the Beast album sounds like a PM album with harsh vocals)
The Flood - Kill2This
I have a 25km (1200m) race coming up in 10 weeks.
The nature of the race is 1200m of gain in 8km, then 4km flat, then 1200m of down over 12km.
My previous times are 3h40, 3h11, 3h6 and 3h19 (in the rain). I would love to crack 3 hours this year.
I’ve been pretty focused on running training for about 10 weeks now, but with mostly shorter intervals plus a long run. I’m well conditioned for long runs of up to 2h30, and for upwards of 12 laps of 400s.
With 10 weeks to go (well 8 counting taper) I’d like to make sure I’m on the best track.
I plan to train 4 times per week.
A- tempo run (40-50 mins)
B- hills
C -open to suggestions
D- long run
What would be some good ideas to build into the missing workout? Currently I feel like I might be a little low on volume/overall milage…. But also I would rather add quality rather than junk miles… but then again would doing a tempo run, hills and also shorter intervals (800-1200 for example) be too much intensity each week??

For the past little while, I’ve doing a thing where I choose a band each month who I feel like I’ve been sleeping on, and then try and listen to their material as often as possible for that whole month.
I don’t want my musical boundaries to stagnate, and so far this has been a great way to keep things interesting.
With help from this thread I’ve done Dark Moor, Amorphis, and then Korpiklani with a side of feuerschwanz (those two don’t quite have the depth for a whole month!)
(I also briefly experimented with A7X, who I know absolutely nothing about but are one of the biggest names in modern metal…. They did nothing for me at all….)
Anyway. For July I’ve selected Iced Earth.
I’m a big fan of classic era Blind Guardian, and ive heard those guys go together like a cat and a keyboard…
So hit me up with a couple of your favourite Iced Earth songs and I’ll make myself a mix.
Side note, thanks to all the people who recommended songs for my Dark Moor mix. I totally love it. And interesting observation is that of the fifty or so suggestions that I got from this sub, there were actually barely any repeat suggestions…. Everyone has their own favourites.
