Country Lyrics Quiz: The Year is 1994

Thanks so much for the positive feedback on these the last few days. We'll see if we can make it all the way through the 90s!

For today, let's time travel back to 1994:

  • Amazon and Yahoo are both founded
  • Major League Baseball players go on strike, and the World Series is canceled
  • The Channel Tunnel between England and France opens
  • Forrest Gump, The Lion King, and True Lies are the top movies at the box office

You have to name the song title and artist, based only on the opening line of the song.

Both answers (title and artist) are each worth the number of points stated. For example, if you get both title and artist on the 3 point question, that is 6 points.

110 points possible.

Post your score in comments.

Preply experience and referral code

For the last year, I've been learning with a tutor in Colombia via Preply, and it has given me a ton of real world listening and speaking experience. I'm now well over the 100 hour mark. As we all know, learning a language isn't easy, but this has been something that has really helped me get over the fear of not really knowing how to speak.

There are lots of teachers in the $6-10 per hour range -- so it's very affordable -- and you may even make a friend in another country.

They are running a referral special right now. If you sign up, you'll get 70% off your first lesson. Maybe worth a try! https://preply.com/en/?pref=MTg5OTEyMjM=&id=1781649060.176091&ep=w1

Help -- Need to get neurologist very soon

For context, my dad is 88. He survived Lymphoma (chemo and radiation) about 4-5 years and has been in reasonable health since then. He's pretty active for an 88 year old.

Recently, he went to his internal medicine doctor, but my mom (84) did not go in with him. He left having no idea what the doctor said. They made a new appointment a few weeks later -- and my mom went in and was supposed to conference me in via speaker phone. She forgot to charge her phone (which she doesn't use much) and was unable to conference me in. But the doctors notes were available. He noted increased cognitive decline, continued complaints of dizziness, lack of taking medication as he should, and increased hearing loss.

He was referred to a Nuerologist and an ENT during the first appointment on 4/22. It has now been 3 weeks. When I saw my dad yesterday, it was a continued reminder that he is not himself -- and something is going on.

I called the Neurology office this morning, and they said it takes 3-6 weeks for the doctor to approve the referral and even then they are booked out "quite a while." I pushed on that a bit and she seemed to have no other answers. I called back to the internal medicine and left a message asking for either an urgent referral or a different referral.

I need some help here. How do I best pursue this? (Both in this specific instance and in a more general sense.) It seems to me that I'm going to have to get very involved with doctor's appointments and such to ensure they are getting good care.

Hi everyone. I played trombone in middle school, but that was 40 years ago. However, I've often told my wife that I was assigned to trombone because after a 10 second assessment, the band director said "you have the lips of a trombone player" -- even though sax was my top choice.
My kids are active in band, and it has taken me back to the fun of seeing them perform. Is it feasible to start sax later in life? Are there learning methods that are known to work well for adults? I don't really know where to start -- but I've been sitting with this idea for a few weeks and sort of want to just see how it feels.
