I am an embarrassment!!

I can't even post a pic because it's so awful. My tank is cloudy/ dirty since recently adding cories. It's sand capped dirt. I have removed/ siphoned up and replaced so much water you'd think it would make a difference but it's exactly the same, for a week now.

I know part of the problem is bacterial bloom and part of it is cories churning up waste, but I can't even see in the tank to clean it properly. I think all my fish are still alive, they seem to be coping ok and water params seem stable but it's such a mess I don't know what to do. I'm trying to add more sand to cap randomly but I can't see to know if I'm doing a good job. I don't think it's breached the soil layer but is all of this possible with mulm only? I do have a small HOB filter which obviously isn't enough for this mess. I know it's only a matter of time until the plants start dying as they must not be getting enough light. I've been feeding pretty sparingly and the bloom isn't dying down. I know adding fresh water could be contributing but I don't see a way past doing that as the brown stuff needs removing.

I have dwarf rasboras as well, shrimp, ramshorns MTS cleaners. Heavily planted (hopefully still)

Beyond fixing this immediate problem, can walstad people not have cories (Besides pygmy)? From what I've read having a mulm layer is good for the plants/ tank ecosystem but it seems I can't have that if it's just being stirred up all the time.

I have a strong bubbler so oxygen is not a problem.

Bacterial bloom?

This is probably bacterial bloom right? I don't think it's tannins as it doesn't have a yellow tint when I remove the water, and I've definitely had tannin stained water before and it's always yellowish in the jar. The fish and shrimp don't seem affected.

I'm going away for 4 nights, do I need to do anything? I've read big water changes can make it worse. I have a small hob filter for airation and flow.

The damselfly that's been (possibly) terrorising my shrimptank

I finally found the damselfly at the window, no idea where it's been hiding for days after finding the larvae moult at the top of my tank. Anyway, it's beautiful and safely outside next to mini pot pond. Hoping he was a lone ranger, my tank seems no worse for wear.

The cursed moult!

I am always looking for these damselfly larvae since I found out they can come in on new plants. I even checked at night. Thought I was lucky that I hadn't found any but this morning there's this exoskeleton on top of the water. So I guess it has been snacking on my shrimp AND I have a damselfly in the house somewhere? I still have lots of babies but one of my adult shrimp started looking really bad yesterday, totally pale. I wonder if it tried to eat her.

Yes, I know there can be more. I don't know if I'll ever find them, my shrimp tank is so heavily planted.

How is she this round and no baby eyes yet?

This is surely the shrimp from the meme. She can't last like this much longer right?

What tankmates have you regretted adding?

I have a 23 gallon tank with shrimp and dwarf rasboras, heavily planted. They seem to be living very harmoniously together and the fish are very active and unafraid.

Id like to add another type of fish but obviously don't want to disturb the balance. What companion fish have you added that have caused havoc for one reason or another?

What microfauna to add

I got my first troupe of dwarf rasboras and I love them! I thought they would be shy but they are ALL over the water column. They're so fun to watch.

When I started my tank I seeded it with some copepods, they seem to enjoy hunting them. I wanted to get some daphnea as well so got some pond water and mud in a separate jar weeks ago to culture some but there are for sure predators in that jar because the daphnea population seems to be going down and not up. Maybe ostrocods? I'm probably overthinking this but would love a thriving microfauna population as well for food/ breaking down detrius. Are there any I should avoid adding besides the obvious leeches and planaria? What have you found easy to culture separately for food as I may do this as well?

Water sprite? Broad leaved water sprite?

Does anyone know what this plant is? I got it with some shrimp and want to plant it in the substrate as I have too many floaters already. Google images says water sprite but want to check with others.

How to know when you need a filter

I've shared a pic before but doing it again for planting.

Tank up for around 6 weeks, home to snails and 10 cherry shrimp for now. They seem happy and plants are growing. I'm considering adding some borora rasboras. Also considering getting a HOB or sponge filter for if I do need one but I have a few questions.

What are the drawbacks, if any, to adding a filter to a walstad tank? I read somewhere about it clearing away too many if the nitrates so the plants don't get enough fertilizer, is that a thing?

Does anyone use a filter part time or occasionally?

How do I know when I need to use it? What I'm I looking for to see that there's an imbalance somewhere and would be improved by filter use? Or is it just water testing based?

What would you do differently

If you could start your tank/s over again? It would be interesting to see what you've learned and how you would change now.

I'm still pretty new but already I'd have used darker sand (but I was saving money and it started as a plant experiment). It's going a bit green already.

I'd buy less floaters knowing now how fast they reproduce!! I could probably have started out with one and have whole tanks full by now but I got three different kinds.

I still don't know how I'm feeling about the ramshorns I added. I love watching them and I know they're doing well keeping everything clean but people are not kidding about reproduction rate. And maybe I'm overfeeding but I have shrimp/ baby shrimp and I want to make sure they have enough food with the competing snails, as well as feeding enough so the plants get at least a bit of fertiliser too. It seems like a tough balance to get right. I'm manually removing some already. On the other hand, I've yet to see a baby MTS which everyone warns about. I'm sure my reckoning will come though.

I'm so sad as I have been feeling the best ever for the last three months, thinking I'd finally cracked it after a year of trying to get to the right disage. And then suddenly I'm needing to wake up in the night to urinate again and noticing night sweats.

This has been the pattern every time. Well the first time I only lasted two months before increasing estrogen. I'm now on .1 estrogen which is the highest licensed (patch). I did try the cream in case I wasn't absorbing the patch and it was worse, all my symptoms started coming back.

Nightime urination and irritable bladder was the first symptom to go away when I started estrogen, and seems to be the first one to come back when I need to increase my dose. I'm also on topical vaginal cream but I'm not sure if it's doing anything at all, it only goes away when I raise my systemic dose but I feel I'm out of options for raising that dose now. I just really don't understand how it can work so well for three months and then stop. Has anyone else been in this situation?

I am also now on 200mg progesterone continuously and happy with that as my periods have left the building now.
