Is horror the best way to break in for new filmmakers?

Is horror the best way to break into film for new filmmakers? I know that's been the trend for a long time but it seems to me like thats the genre with the lowest budget for the highest reception.

Becoming a Technical Director

I was at a yard sale for film equipment the other day, and i talked to a guy about doing freelance. I told him im trying to learn what I can about cameras, sound, and lighting, which would aid me me in directing and writing my own films. He told me i should really just focus on directing and writing, its unnecessary to learn all the other stuff just to make a movie. What do yall think of that take?

Personally im gathering equipment and using it myself because i dont want to wait to make my own stuff and spend a bunch of money on a simple short film. I can write and direct far more if I just handle the technical side instead of spending money on a crew. I really enjoy working with a crew and ive made great stuff with them, but im a young broke guy so I feel like I dont have much choice if i want to get out there and make movies. I want to make my movies without limits, so that works for me.

Booktubers like Write Conscious?

Im not sure if this is the right subreddit but im looking for youtube channels that are similar to the videos of Write Conscious. He makes plenty of videos of books that are discussed in this subreddit and ive been introduced to tons of good stuff like Murakami, Mishima, Don Delilo, etc, through his videos. Thing is though is that ive been really disliking his recent takes lately. I dont intend to make a hit post here, so in brief ill just say his analysis and takes are just cringe. His presentation is also pretty bad, mostly the way we stumbles over his words.

What i do like is his passion for literature get me excited about reading books and his taste is good. I want to know if there are any similar booktubers with similar tastes, that are more articulate, and that have well thought out analysis of novels.

So far what ive found are booktubers who talk about recent releases and classics, but I want to know more about the transgressive stuff.
