Is now the right time to refinance my home? Or should I wait for rates to come down a little more?

I've been thinking about refinancing my VA loan a lot lately and keep researching mortgage rate news, but I can't make up my mind about when the best time to refinance is. My current rate is 7.25% and I think a moderate drop would make a huge difference to my monthly payment. I'm seeing rates in the low 6s from some lenders, but I don't know if I should wait and see if they drop even more. I'm worried that if I do it now, rates will decrease even more and I'll end up regretting not waiting. We've only been in the house for about two years, so I'm not sure if it's too soon to refinance. Is anyone else also in this position? How do I know when the right time is to refinance?

Do VCs help with product market fit?

We built an AI sales agent in 6 months and showed it to accounts and a lot of them said they could build it themselves. So we went back to the drawing board. This time we're talking to customers first before writing any code. Now we're thinking about fundraising and I'm wondering how you find investors who help at this stage. I'm talking about people who have built products before and can help you understand your customer instead of metrics once they're on the board. We need such investors who can help

anyone else notice how similar ecommerce sites have gotten?

Doing some heavy competitor research before I launch RN and noticed like 20 stores in my niche (home goods) have the exact same layout. No srsly its EXACTLY the same. Like same hero banner style, same stock photography etc. Some of them are even using the same font.

I get that templates exist for a reason and nobody wants to reinvent for a reason and nobody wants to reinvent the wheel on checkout flow. But if a customer bounces between five tabs and can't tell which store they're even looking at, that feels like a problem . Just me?

For anyone who's actually broken out of this general samness we're seeing across the board, was it photography, copy, just picking a weirder theme, or something structural like how you organized categories that you focused on to differentiate yourself?

Do you think couples naturally become more alike over time?

I was thinking about this after spending time with a couple of friends who have been together for years. They finish each others sentences, laugh at the same things, and even use the same expressions.

Do you think people naturally become more alike the longer they're together,or is it just something we notice more? I'd love to hear what you've observed, whether its from your own or people you know.

7% of my accounts were eating half my API bill and two were on the cheapest plan

TL;DR: pulled my API bill in June and it was $900 against $3k MRR. Seven percent of accounts were eating half of it. Two of them were on the cheapest plan.

I will probably annoy some people here but this needs saying. The pricing debates on this sub are all about positioning and value ladders and few are checking what it costs you to serve the customer you just won.

I wasnt either. Pulled our API bill in June out of habit, not suspicion. Nine hundred dollars in a month against about three grand in MRR. Read it twice because the first read felt like a typo.

Boring backstory. Added a feature last year that reads an uploaded doc and answers questions on it. Wired it to Opus during the build because it was the model that got the output right first and i wanted to ship that week. Never went back. Priced the plan at $29 because thats what everyone else charges and i did not think about it any harder than that.

Benchmark posts i read said software margins were holding up fine and AI hadn't really dented them. Thats true across the whole market and it was worthless to me, because market averages are not your P&L.

Broke the bill down by account and the shape was ugly. Most users cost almost nothing, five bucks or less. Seven percent of accounts were burning half the spend. Two of them were on the cheapest plan. One had been in a testimonial on our homepage since March, telling people how much they use it, which they absolutely were.

Ran the worst one properly. Lives in the tool, just under three hundred queries in June, and these are long documents so the whole thing goes into context every time, thirty thousand tokens in and a few thousand back out. On Opus pricing that account cost me sixty four dollars. On a twenty nine dollar plan. Before hosting, before Stripe, before i pay myself.

Two things people will say and both are fair. Cache it, which we do now, it helps going in and does nothing coming out and output is where the money is. And stop stuffing whole documents, chunk and retrieve, which is correct and is sitting on my list under things i should have built properly the first time.

Heres what actually moved the number.

Raised the price to ninety nine. Lost close to half the accounts and spent a fortnight convinced id killed the business. Revenue still went up. The ones who left were the heaviest, which should tell you what they were really worth.

Then routing, which should have been first because it took an afternoon. Most of what the feature does is not hard work. Chunking, tagging, first drafts. Ive got glm-5.2 doing that layer now and that same account runs around sixteen dollars instead of sixty four. The cheap Gemini and OpenAI tiers land in similar territory, i just used what my stack already talked to. Real reasoning still hits the expensive model, thats maybe a fifth of what comes through.

Now the part i dont like. None of this is a moat. Any competitor reads this and does the same routing tomorrow. It bought me margin and nothing else, and i still dont have a real answer for what does. Whatever piles up inside the product that a fresh clone wouldnt have, probably. Im hand waving and i know it.

Go look at your bill by account instead of in total. The average told me everything was fine for four months.

Inference sits second on my spreadsheet now, under rent, over the coffee situation i am not discussing. Did not see that coming this year.

Asset Management vs Private Equity : Which career has the longterm balance?

I've been trying to weigh the long-term trade offs between Asset Management and Private Equity.

PE obviously has huge upside with carry, but the deal sprints and portpolio issues can make work life balance pretty rough. AM seems to offer more predictable hours and a bit more autonomy, but you're also tied to market swings and fund inflows.

For those who worked in either field, do you have any regrets about your choice when it comes to lifestyle vs analyst deciding between the two, what would you tell them?

What movie made you want to read the original book?

Some adaptations are so good that they make me curious about what the book includes that the movie couldn’t fit.

For me, it was The Martian I loved the movie, but everyone who’d read the book said it had even more science, humor, and problem-solving, which made me want to pick it up.

What movie had that effect on you?
