The first public reading of the Declaration of Independence in MA and New England...

Took place in Worcester not Boston.

On July 14, 1776, Isaiah Thomas gave the first public reading of the Declaration of Independence in New England and Massachusetts. Fearing British patrols in Boston, he read the document to a large, cheering crowd from the western porch of the Old South Meeting House in Worcester.

There is (was) a plaque commemorating this event on the corner of Main and Wellington Streets in Worcester.

I was taking a tourist friend on the Boston Duck Tours and they stated it occurred in Boston first, not Worcester. Was surprised at the misinformation. With the 250th coming up, I just wanted to throw out the correct info.

The internet agrees with me. This kind of irks me. We need to capitalize on our history more right?

I live in an urban neighborhood. It is full of 3 deckers and other multi-family homes. Despite its dense population, it is relatively quiet both day and night. I have new neighbors that moved in across the street. My bedroom faces their front porch. They put up windchimes today. It is now windy (but beautiful temperature) and with my windows open, I am now subject to the beautiful sounds of gongs and tinkling metal. Even with my fan on, I can hear them. It's driving me crazy. I really don't wanna be that guy, but I'm about to go cut the fucking things down so I can get a decent night's sleep. Theres really no way to approach this without sounding like a Karen. And yes it's a minimal problem, but after a long winter, I want my windows open dammit.
