Military helicopters?

Just saw what appeared to be 4 Blackhawk helicopters followed by a chinook fly over Ashland and land somewhere in the neighborhood near Cermak. What the hell is going on? I’m used to the Helicopters coming from near Costco but that was odd.

Leaving my current position for a startup?

Hi all!

I recently received an offer for a startup (I’m an embedded software engineer) and I’m struggling with what to do.

I just saw this job listed on LinkedIn and decided to shoot out an application, mainly because it is much closer to where I live, and it looked like cool work. I didn’t expect to make it through interviews much less produce an offer.

My current job is at a medium-sized company, and while it can be a little boring, my work is flexible and stable. I’m a pretty high performer, and was (in the middle of interviewing for this other position) recently promoted.

This other job is very close to me (only about 15-20 minutes away) whereas I drive an hour each way to my current job, so this is the biggest plus. I feel like I would be trading the drive for potentially less stability and potentially higher stress. Additionally, it’s a pay bump of about 10%.

Something else to add, this would be my 3rd job in 3 years since graduating college. I was laid off (not my fault, whole department got offshored) at my first job only 6 months in , and have been at my current job for a little under 2 years. I’m afraid of it looking like I’m a bit of job hopper considering that.

Not really sure what to do here, I’m nervous about the change and want some advice of what working at a startup is like, things to consider, etc…

Best FPGA devkit for beginner(ish) in 2026?

Hi there! Like the title suggests, I’m looking for a devkit to help dip my toes in the world of FPGA.

I’m an early career firmware engineer, and just curious about learning more about FPGA engineering. I have a background in Computer & Electrical engineering and really enjoyed my digital logic classes in college. I unfortunately never got to take the FPGA elective at my university as it didn’t line up with my schedule.

A couple years out of school I just want to explore something new. Looking for recommendations on devkits/courses or resources that are highly recommended. I’m considering a pivot into a hardware direction and would like to give FPGA stuff a try. A kit with some IO (buttons, lights, etc) would be cool. I’m sure there is a gold standard for beginners that sees use in college courses, but there’s a lot of recommendations out there.
