Keys still meant to work on the connected docking station for ebikes?

For the first time today my key didn't unlock a grey bike at the newer charging dock I use all the time.

Those electric docks have always been less card-friendly than the older ones: you have to swipe the key, not insert it, it takes several goes and the unlock sound is quiet. They were clearly not designed with key users in mind. But today it simply would not respond.

My question: Are keys still meant to work on those connected docks? Has there been a change in policy?

I have no particular reason to think it was anything but a one-off bug but I would hate to not be able to use my key.

Mapped 65 NYC-area bike shops, including the ones that closed. Queens and the Bronx are thin — what am I missing? Need your good ones.

I added a shop map to bikedrawer.com because a “bike store” search on Google Maps is kinda messy and incomplete: bikedrawer.com/shops

Right now I have: 53 shops (+ 7 that closed in the recent years). Brooklyn and Manhattan are in decent shape. Queens, the Bronx and Staten Island are thin. I also have added a few NYC-region ones.

What would help me:
- Good shops I've missed. Queens, the Bronx and Staten Island especially. And beyond NYC, anything within reach of a century ride.
- Anything inaccurate. Moved, closed, taken over.
- A short personal note about your favorite store.

No signup needed, feedback form is there on the page. Or let me know right here in the comments.

Port Authority is surveying people who use their bike/ped shared-use paths

The PA just emailed a link to their 2026 Bicycle/Pedestrian Shared-Use Pathway Online Survey: https://forms.cloud.microsoft/g/v1fe6WqWBj

Their bike/ped info page: https://www.panynj.gov/bridges-tunnels/en/george-washington-bridge/pedestrian-bicycle-info.html

Filled it in last year. Well worth a few minutes.

Last summer they also had a stand on the NJ side of the GWB and were handing out life-saving bottles of cold water too.

I run a free catalog of used cycling gear in NYC

https://bikedrawer.com

The idea came from the pandemic shortages, when a friend handed me a chain. The only reason I got one is that I happened to know him, which seemed like an inefficient way to find a part. This year I finally built it.

It's a catalog of used gear cyclists around the city are selling. Every item gets its own page that stays up and can be found in a search. You message the seller directly and meet up. No accounts, no fees, no payments, no shipping.

The difference with other options: a WhatsApp group is small and only help if you're already in it, an FB Marketplace requires an account and the posts are hidden from Google. Bike Drawer is a catalog you can search, and Google can read it. Listings run 60 days and you can renew them.

About 38 items at the moment, mostly road gear, since that's the crowd I came in through.

Free to list, free to browse. Happy to hear how to improve it and see your gear listed.
