So the "roles" I loot from bosses aren't actual things, right?

This keeps confusing me. My "role" in-game is my load-out, great, why when I kill a bunch of bosses do I get their "role" as an item that I cannot then find in my inventory anywhere? I thought it would be like, a costume or something but there is nowhere to put it. When I loot a role does that just mean it might be an aspect, might be a mask, etc? These are not the masks you get by collecting mask shards or anything like that.

I just got one from a gatekeeper somewhere in the area around /after the coliseum save point. But I don't think he gave me an aspect or a mask. This is unnecessarily confusing. Thanks.

Sigh... stuck in Somber Echoes? Any unlikely help out there?

edit2: Solution is the very tall room in The Grove with several yellow walls along the ceiling. If you shoot off the wall in lightstream form DIRECTLY into another wall, it doesn't cost another charge. Using two lantern charges you can get above the room to find another power up which will open some ways forward. Interestingly, it appears this random streamer I watch play metroidvanias or soulslikes sometimes also hit the same road block and had quit the game for a while until people helped him find the way forward and he picked up the game again. The video in question, should anyone else need better directions / see it on a map or whatever. Thanks 1000% dondashall for the help!

Here is the full map of my exploration, sorry for the garbage quality but to get it all in one shot you have to zoom out all the way and there are no in-between steps, so I just snapped a print screen when it was halfway done zooming out so this is the best quality I could get on it.

I have the second lantern charge, lightstream, but not yet found the supernova or the like, spear through door ability I think I heard about? I have gone over every edge of the map a few times I swear but can't find any way forward. Is there a trick to destroying the security heads so I can travel through their little passage-ways or whatever?

How do I get to the north-westish area that is obviously unexplored? That should be a good start. Thanks. Was really enjoying the game overall but boy this sure killed all the momentum. I don't think there was a teleporter or train I went past that I didn't also use... Bah... Thanks in advance.

Sportscult Private Torrent Tracker is currently doing open sign-ups, if anyone is interested.

It's already been going on a week apparently so I don't expect it will last too much longer. But for people dedicated to getting full matches it is very often better access than this forum gives. You have to meet upload requirements and such if you're not familiar with private trackers, like seeding each torrent you download for 1 day or until you seed as much as you have downloaded (whichever comes first), then you can stop seeding.
