Anyone nearby willing to help a newbie catch a catfish this weekend?

Started fishing for the first time since childhood last year and would love to learn how to bag a catfish. Idk if I'm doing something wrong or just in the wrong place. I'm in the Greenville area but willing to go a little further if need be. Thanks!

Accidentally caught a huge bowfin on my ultralight. Didn't have a net and it snapped the line at the bank.

10 pound braid, 8 pound flouro. Knots were fine, I checked the line at the terminal end and it was stretched and frayed. A landing net is the obvious answer here, but what else can I do if the situation arises again unexpectedly?

I'd like to keep fishing with lighter line so I can keep slinging rooster tails across the pond, but my biggest concern is the fish swimming around with a rooster tail in its' mouth, currently feeling like an irresponsible angler and would love some guidance
