Greenville’s Nextdoor (app) is a joke

The petty a$$ crowd from Nextdoor in Greenville are the most stupidly ignorant people on the planet! They, like their president, are pieces of s**t! If you post anything that annoys the BOOMER generation on Nextdoor, regardless of how well received it is, they make sure it gets hidden or removed. What a joke!

Any charging spots on campus for e-bikes?

I am an incoming freshman and I would like to bring my electric bike with me. It has a wall outlet charger, but I would also like to be able to chain it to something. I am staying at clement residence hall, is there anyone else with an electric bike that has any recommendations?

Snakes

I know they're super common, but how often do you see them just out in your yard? Is there anything we should/ shouldn't do to keep our kids, dog and the snakes safe? We know to leave them be and stay observant, but I also want our kids to be able to run around and play outside in the sprinklers. The house does have a big fence but I assume that being chain link it won't stop snakes from getting in. I don't see any firewood piles and it's not near any forest area.

Making college friends over the summer?

I’m a college freshman interning at ECU over the summer. I really wanna make some friends that I can hang out with, go out with, whatever over the next few months. Do yall have any advice on places to go to meet people or avenues to take to meet other people my age?

Aside from work, I go to the gym frequently and use dating apps to get out (to little avail). Any advice is amazing.

Where Do you Hangout At.

Hey,

I’m from the Greenville area, but honestly I’ve always been more of a homebody or someone who leaves town when I want to go out and have fun. Lately, I’ve been trying to connect more with the local community by going to art walks, joining book clubs, and attending different events, but I still feel like I haven’t really found my crowd yet.

So where are the child free 30+ people hanging out? And where are the more diverse spaces?

I’m Hispanic and my partner is Black, and we sometimes end up in places where we feel very out of place. Nothing wrong with predominantly white spaces at all, but sometimes the stares can get uncomfortable, especially at artsy or social events where you’d think everyone would just be there to enjoy themselves.

We’re mainly looking for bars, events, or spots with fun, welcoming people who are more relaxed and open minded. Any recommendations?

I’m an IT student and veteran here in Greenville working on CCNA and Security+. I’m trying to connect with people in the area who are into homelabs, home networking, or IT in general.

Curious what setups people around here are running and how you got started.

Need a little driving practice before DMV test — no family support

Hi, this is honestly really embarrassing for me to post, but I don’t know who else to ask.

I’m 23 and trying to get my license in the Greenville/Winterville area. I do have my permit, and I just finished my driving lessons. I’m very close to being ready for the DMV test, but I really need another hour or two of practice to feel confident.

The problem is I genuinely do not have family or friends to practice with. I’ve been trying to do this completely on my own and I’m overwhelmed. I can pay a little, but I don’t have much money at all right now.

If anyone knows a safe, affordable option or would be willing to help me practice in a public area before my test, I’d really appreciate it. Even pointing me toward resources would help a lot. Thank you.

2026-2027 Budget Proposal totals $194 million, 83% of it for city workers; tax rate to stay the same at 39.54 cents

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) - The city of Greenville presented a $194 million budget proposal for fiscal year 2026-2027 on Monday, a $17 million increase from its previous fiscal year budget.

Nearly 50 percent of its general fund dollars at $124 million will go toward funding public safety, including for police, and fire/rescue.

The budget proposal aims to provide $250,000 in funding towards pedestrian safety projects across the city, $750,000 for 12 additional fire/rescue roles, and $300,000 in funding medical supply inventory for EMS.

Other funds will be allocated to sanitation, fleet maintenance and transit services.

City Manager Michael Cowin said the budget continues to invest in the city’s growth.

“This budget continues to invest in moving the city forward, we have approximately 5 million dollars worth of new revenue and so we’re continuing to see growth within our community,” he said. “But also, we invest with this budget over 83 percent into our employees cause they’re our number one asset.”

The city’s tax rate will remain the same.
“Our tax rate will remain at 39.54 cents, which in order to be able to provide all these additional services that’s very valuable for us to say and very important that we can say that we’re doing it by not increasing the tax rate, but keeping that stable,” Cowin said.

The city will hold a public hearing on the proposed budget Monday, June 8 at 6 p.m.

During the meeting, city staff also presented an analysis of whether Greenville could adopt a Philadelphia-style policy on ICE interactions under state law, described as barring ICE from using city-owned property as locations for raids and other actions.

City Councilwoman Portia Willis requested the analysis after residents reached out concerned about ICE.

“I do think it’s important for us to take a moral stand and let citizens know how we feel about these issues and I think it goes into the fabric of our city and how we want our county to feel,” Willis said. “I just wanted to make it clear that I think that there is a way for us to be able to uphold the laws of our federal government and still preserve dignity and respect for ourselves and for those who call America home.”

Councilman Les Robinson weighed in on the presentation.

“I think it’s important for us as the city council to become knowledgeable on what the facts are versus what somebody comes up here and says,” he said. “Ice is not targeting- they target people that are violent, typically.”

Councilman Matthew Scully also weighed in.

“There is a legitimate amount of fear and anxiety in our community. Citizens have died in our country because of the unprofessional actions of some officers in ICE, not condemning the whole organization, but there is some legitimate fear and anxiety throughout our nation and community that should be addressed through education like this to inform our citizens what their rights are.”

Staff says that due to NC state law, adopting such a policy would not be possible.

Willis said she hopes for future action the city can take in making sure its residents feel safe and protected.
