Budget Bowies!

Recently had a phase where I started getting interested in Bowies but didn't want to spend too much for a beater knife.

I picked up the Harbor Freight Gordon 6 inch Bowie knife (bottom), which is a knock off of the venerable Buck 119, for 35 dollars. Carried it in the forest as a camp knife for a couple trips and it worked super well for both camp chores and cooking, very sharp. Felt a bit safer with this larger blade (6 inches) hanging on my belt in the remote wilderness since I'm more used to EDC folder type knives and small fix blades. The sheath is robust and I'm surprised at how well the belt loop withstood lots of twisting and bending when I was getting in and out of the car with it.

Then I decided to get a proper big bowie - went with the Mossy Oak Bowie knife (top) for 20 dollars, featuring a 8.5 inch thick clip point blade and wood handles. This chunky boy seems more like a short sword than a knife and I have yet to test it out but there are a ton of online reviews and abuse tests on this blade with people throwing, chopping, batonning through thick wood with zero problems. I'm gonna have to run my own tests on this bad boy soon. They say a bowie should be wide enough to use as a paddle and to dig holes with, but sharp enough to do smaller tasks like shaving. This fits the bill. My only complaint is that the sheath is a bit flimsy but hey its only 20 bucks!

I'm a sucker for watches with history and tied to historical events.

Tudor BB54: based off the first ever tudor and rolex submariners released in 1954 with same 37mm dimensions and no crown guards, historically issued to naval special warfare and divers.

Omega Speedmaster Professional: first watch on the moon, also instrumental in helping Apollo 13 prevent disaster. NASA flight qualified in 1965 and hesalite version is more true to original form worn by generations of astronauts.

Cartier Santos: based off of first ever men's wrist watch (before wrist watches were only popular with women).

Next, I will be going after Rolex Explorer I for the Everest vibes. Feel free to add any suggestions for next watches to add to my collection.

I was in my parked vehicle on the curb, turned on my signal to indicate I was going to merge into the road, looked over my shoulder, and saw it was clear and began to merge. A White Cadillac at a high rate of speed turned onto the road heading towards my vehicle. They did not stop while I was in the middle of my merge, swerved and slammed on their brakes. I also slammed on the brakes when I saw he was trying to overtake me. Our vehicles did not collide or make any contact at all, and no external physical damage occurred to either vehicle. The driver of the Chevy Cadillac had an improperly and unsafely secured large pipe tubing inside his car cabin extending into the front drivers compartment that slid and hit his front windshield when he pressed on the brakes. Their front windshield cracked.

The police stated that there was no vehicular damage, injury, or collision, and thus they could not file a report. One officer also indicated to the other driver that the large unsecured cargo in his cabin was his own choice and that sudden stops could have caused the pipe to slide forward to impact the windshield. We exchanged insurance and contact info.

Who is at fault? It's so frustrating because he told me it was my fault, but 1) it's not my problem he has a massive pipe unsecured in his cabin that could have slid during any sudden stops anyways, and 2) I feel that I properly signalled and merged into the roadway.
