How to keep AI from "running away with the plot"?
So per the title.
I do interactive storytelling more than RP. I don't want the AI to tell me the plot - I want it to act out the plot I give it. I have a Director Persona, and the AI character card is set up as a Narrator, and all of the characters are NPC's. This has avoided the "main character" bias.
I have fought with the AI to comply with the lore. It mostly does.
However, what I cannot friggin stop it from doing is running away with the plot. If I set a scene I want it to elaborate on, if there is ANY hint of a conflict, it jumps in and spews out seven paragraphs of narrative, introducing the conflict, talking about it, and offering an immediate commentary on the solution to the conflict. Ninety percent of the time, it has completely misunderstood where the plot was going. You cannot tell it secretly what is coming up in the plot, or it uses that knowledge to influence character actions. So lacking a direction, it invents the wrong direction. I cannot stop it from doing this.
It is good at NPC agency, which I don't want to take away (I'm using some bits from FF Micro). But NPC Agency does not equal Plot Agency, and I can't figure out how to tell it that. I run the plot. NOT the AI.
Any suggestions?
