Unusual reading journey
“Have you read the BC!??”
I read it first before touching anything else in ACOTAR 🤠. It was actually my first time touching SJM. In 2023. I used to see so much tussling on Twitter and I am pretty good at ignoring all that and I don’t usually get FOMO but one day I was like “What the hell are these people on about? What necklace? What bonus???”
So I found it on some obscure site and read it. To preface this: I am a huge romance reader. I have read too many at this point.
My conclusion after? The girl called Elain and the guy called Azriel are endgame….obviously.
It is hard to explain this because it is a feeling that you get by having read so many romance books. I would compare it with muscle memory. I can tell when the author is setting up a couple and how they are going on about doing so. It is hard to throw me off. She put so much care into showing how much these two crave one another and the chemistry was off the charts. “And there she was” was nuts. She was pulling the classic stuff like him not feeling worthy to touch her skin and then having him fumble and say that it was a mistake when it was anything but. Rhysand laying down the law and creating an obstacle…i was living. Again, classic romance shit.
And then Gwyn showed and I was aware that this was the commotion is about. I was reading like okay…this is random and suspicious. The way the first part was written was so intimate and obviously their relationship is nowhere near over. I noticed how he “would not consider her a friend” & basically said to Clotho that he does not care who the necklace goes to.
Then what’s the ending of the bonus about? I did not believe that he is “moving on” so fast because that makes 0 sense with what was shown in the first part of the bonus. And I also thought it would be icky because you are telling me he will be with her and she will receive this leftover necklace….I thought to myself “If this is considered a start of something we are off to a terrible start lol”. So yeah I did read it. And my last thought was “Elain and Az are endgame and something weird is going on with the other girl.”
November 2024 I read ACOSF and my suspicions were correct. I mean of course they were. People who thought the bonus led somewhere else I think either are not big on romance reads or have a hefty bias against a certain somebody. Just the facts 😇.
This is why i have 0 doubts and no amount of gaslighting will work. I read what I read. And no amount of stunts and shows will work on me. Excited for the book!

What is the standout moment in the books that made you care for her?
ACOWAR was a true standout for me and this exact scene when she helped Feyre with the Suriel endeared her to me even more. To be clear, I liked her from the get go. I don’t even have to mention the Hybern kill that one is a given. After that I LOVED her in ACOSF. Her dry humor and wit in that book truly sealed the deal. That was the way to my heart so to speak.
(also her chugging down that whiskey in ACOSAF after nesta showed up lollll)

elain aesthetic buffet
1: whimsy
i chose this theme because she carries a fair share of whimsy underneath. she reminds me of a small fluffy white rabbit that’s just very friendly and loves to jump around with joy. especially when out in nature.
akin to a rose, she is all loveliness and soft petals. however, she also reveals thorns when necessary.
2: cobalt
i associate this deep and soulful color with the intrigue and mystique that surrounds elain. what does she see? what can she do?
3: make it pink
at her core, she is a gorgeous doe peeking through a flower bush. she is pastels and silk and pinks and blushes and soft touches. she is romantic and lush.

Not in vain - the TT scene significance
When someone puts their trust in you, it can motivate you to act and also to strive to not fail the person who graced you with their trust. Besides being protective of Nesta and all the others who matter to her, Elain was motivated to act bravely because Azriel had put his trust into her and she didn’t want to fail him either. If people underestimate you from the get go it usually ends with feeling demotivated and not valuable (there are exceptions and people who feed off others underestimating them and it makes them thrive however i am not talking about that right now). This is why Az handing Elain TT is such an outstanding moment, it was his trust placed in her hands that saved her life and all their lives. He saw her potential, took a chance on her and it paid off.
“He gently took her hand and pressed the hilt of the legendary blade into it. “It will serve you well.”
And serve her it did.
His trust in her was not in vain. 💙💘

Hello!
This is my contribution to Elriel month. Eros and Psyche are my favorite mythical couple and I see parallels between them and Elain and Azriel. Psyche's loyalty and quiet bravery and Eros' devotion and deep desire. Very Elriel. (colleges 1&2)
As for the White and Black Swan (collages 3&4), they remind me of the infamous quote "The lovely fawn, blooming spring vibrant behind her. Standing before Death, shadows and terrors lurking over his shoulder. Light and dark, the space between their bodies a blend of the two." The "light and dark" symbolism is something that is at the core of their dynamic, making them timeless and evocative.
