Are we all actually lazy and not interested in new experiences?

So I recently graduated and started working part time at a small organization that focused on education, more especially global education. They want to run a pilot project that essentially gets young Canadians to travel thru the working holiday visa. I myself applied to their program and that’s how I discovered the company itself. I personally think teaching English aboard -like France or Taiwan or travels to unpopular destinations (eg. They have Senegal /Sierra Lieone) is a great opportunity esp cuz I’m in my early 20s but my colleges and people I’ve shared this program with are not hopeful. They literally said —kids these days are lazy and want to stay in their comfort zones.

I genuinely think it’s just not a lot people know about these opportunities cuz I also did an exchange semester through York International and had the best time of my undergraduate.

Anyways all this to say I’m really curious to know 1. Are students/ grads not interested 2. If there are, what’s holding them back 3. Is there a specific target audience for this or it’s a lost cause

Lmk guys genuinely trying to figure out if this is something worth putting effort it or making a case for🫶

What’s stopping you from traveling to Africa?

As the title says, I want to know why African countries are usually not on the travel list. From what I know the Canadian visa is pretty solid and trip would not be too expensive compared to domestic trips like Banff and BC. I have been seeing so much travel content all over my social media and my friends and people I know also have been travelling a lot. However most countries I see are either in Europe or Asia and some South America. Don’t get me wrong I visited many countries in Asia and LOVED it. But now with so much content on underrated places to travel I am surprised that not many African counties are shown (except Morocco seems to be very popular). This makes me wonder do people still have a dated perception of Africa? Or people are actually going but happen to not post about it.

I’m curious because I am making travel plans for next year and I like to travel for experience not vacation if that makes sense and I came across programs and they offer many African destinations but I’m a little skeptical.

Really interested to know what you guys have to say.

Update- I listened to you all

A week or two ago I had posted if I should sign up for the teaching in Asia program (Taiwan especially) and a lot of you said yes so I did 🥳🥳 I received an email for next steps and honestly I am nervous and also excited !!

Interestingly they also just released new programs for Italy and France that are shorter (3-9) months and now I wish I waited before deciding. Esp cuz these only require you to be in your final year of Bachelors. Nevertheless I think I made the correct decision because I would love to explore Asia more.

Excited to see what the future holds!! Thanks guys I def needed a little push and so glad I received the comments :))

Am I cooked?

I am graduating in June with no clear direction on what I want to do so I signed up for teaching English in Taiwan for one year program. I kept getting aired for jobs so just thought why not. Coincidentally the company also had a part time position open so I sent my app for that as well. Now I got responses from both and idk what to do.

If I pick the part time job then I have some income while I look for full time positions and maybe soon find a decent paying full time position so if I’m missing out on the trip I can still travel around for vacation

If I pick the program, ideally best year of my life- flights covered, rent covered and I get monthly allowance. They sent a detailed email and basically it’s backed by government so no shady private companies and I’ll get full support from Language Canada throughout. And I can travel around Asia while I’m there

I feel like I should pick the job but part of me thinks I would never be this young and responsibilities will only increase from here. Thoughts?

I don’t know what to do

I started this part time role where I basically promote global experience and they are in collaboration with Language Canada for the IEC Canadian work holiday program. The issue is they expect 20 applicant every month but I can’t find enough people that are interested.

Don’t get me wrong it’s a solid program even I was considering it if I was gonna be unemployed for longer but I feel like a failure for not being able to do enough outreach. The program is teaching in Asia for a year, there’s montly allowance, trip covered and rent free studio so I think it’s a solid experience

Any tips on how I can do better lol? I have reaching out to career centre and diff clubs here but feel like I’m hiting a dead end.

Hey been exploring initiatives like Youth 2033 and BT Global Access lately and feel like there’s a real gap in awareness for global opportunities government of Canada supports . Would love to connect with others who are passionate about international opportunities and maybe build something small , a club, a group chat, whatever works to spread the word and support each other. Anyone down? This is the initiative- https://youth2033.com
