Looking through their catalogue, they don't seem like the best candidate but the thing is Dimps already knew how to make traditional fighting games, but they ultimately went a different route with Dragon Ball Z Budokai and it ultimately proved they were just as capable with 3D as they are 2D.

The Rumble Fish series is the only real example of them making serious fighters of their own and while the games are technically amazing, not many know about them due to never being properly localized.
