Had a great trip. Brought back many happy memories, souvenirs and Lyme Disease.
Just wanted to feed back about our two week trip to Nova Scotia. We received a great deal of helpful advice from this forum, and others online. We also met up with someone we met via r/NovaScotia which was really lovely.
We mainly toured places relating to the fishing industry, or fishing heritage. Saw many great musuems from the Eastern Passage, through Lunenburg, Shelburne, Yarmouth and Digby. This meant we were sometimes off the normal tourist trail, but we got a great deal out of it all. The maritime history is so well preserved and remembered, and we were moved by the number of memorials to fishers and other seafarers who had been lost at sea. We also spent a few days on Cape Breton, hiking and driving the Cabot Trail. Sadly we didn't have enough time to see Sydney which meant we missed out on a lot of social history there. We are both trade unionists and would have liked time to visit the mining museum. We did have a brilliant moment of international solidarity when we joined the CUPE picket lines which we passed on one of our days near Halifax. Good luck to those workers fighting for better working conditions and wages.
Ironically we brought back Lyme Disease. Despite spending all our time on NS checking ourselves after every hike, walk and birdwatching trip, my partner got bitten in Toronto on a short walk we did the evening before our flight back. It meant we probably missed the tick during the overnight transatlantic. But I would say that the numerous posters/info boards we saw during our trip meant that we did recognise the symptoms, and we got very prompt treatment at A&E when we got home. Our medical consultant was extremely excited to see the disease for the first time in their long career!
Nova Scotia, and Canada in general, were wonderful. We ate well (and I've got lots of gluten free advice for celiacs if people need it in the future) and found some lovely hikes, museums and people. Thanks for everything.
C:GEO issues
Hi. Anyone else having problems with the c:geo app?
Im on holiday in Canada. Ever since I got here the app constantly logs me out and I have to manually log back on. Its particularly annoying because of the Captcha.
The app has worked for me really smoothly for years. Is this a global issue or because I am in Canada. Using it on a Samsung phone.
Hey all,
Assuming the situation in the Gulf doesn't stop our flights due to Jet Fuel problems, we are looking forward to spending two weeks in Nova Scotia and a week in Toronto. Are there any caches that you recommend? Particuarly interested if they are unusual designs or take you to unusual historical places. Thanks in advance for the recommendations.
