Blue discoloration on beef fat/membrane, does anyone know what this is?
Hi everyone,
I bought this piece of beef from a local market today, and I noticed that part of the white membrane/fat has a bright blue discoloration. The rest of the meat looks and smells normal.
Has anyone seen this before? Could it be inspection dye, a processing mark, or something else? I was also wondering if there’s any chance it could be contamination (I even thought about rodent poison, although that seems unlikely).
Would you consider this safe to eat, or would you return it?
I’ve attached a photo. Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks!
