Fine hair & knotting

Hey all! I’ve seen a lot of discourse online about how fine stranded hair is highly prone to knotting and that the best way to tackle it is by blow-drying it every 1-2 weeks

As someone with fine hair, is this true? Can I grow out my fine-strand hair without blow-drying it that often? I don’t want to make any mistakes since I’m just starting my hair journey, but I also don’t want to cause heat damage.

Knotting is inevitable, but should I really take what feels like such an extreme measure, like heat training my hair?

Balding? Help!

Hey guys, I need some help. This year was really hard on me, I had family issues, lost almost all my friends and dropped over 20kgs. As a result, I started balding I got prescribed oral minoxidil 1.5mg in May but my bald spot is only getting bigger. I know minoxidil takes time but what else can I do to fix this? It started off as mild thinning and now it’s like this. I don’t do braids with added hair or anything that will cause heavy tension on my hair. I just stick to low tension two strand twists. I’ve gotten the cécred edge drops and the ordinary hair peptide serum for hair density in hopes that will help me somehow. Moreover I’m only 19 so I don’t understand why the balding is alr happening 😓

Still learning wash and gos. Product combo + technique advice?

Hey all! I’m still learning wash and gos and my last attempt was pretty dry, frizzy, and lacked definition. I realized I styled on barely damp hair instead of soaking wet hair, so I want to improve my technique and would love some feedback. I have low porosity, medium-density hair with a lot of shrinkage!!

Products I’m planning to use:
• OUAI Detox Shampoo (I have buildup that I want to remove)
• Design Essentials Almond & Avocado Shampoo
• Design Essentials Almond & Avocado Conditioner (or Camille Rose Algae Renew Deep Conditioning Mask)
• Kinky-Curly Knot Today Leave-In
• Innersense I Create Hold Gel (thinking about layering Uncle Funky’s Daughter Curl Magic underneath as a base gel)
• The Doux Mousse Def

My questions are:

  1. Do these products seem compatible, or are there any combinations you’d avoid?

  2. What’s your favorite application technique for maximum moisture and definition? Rake and smooth? Shingling? Brush styling?

  3. Any tips for maintaining moisture throughout the week?

I’m really trying to learn my hair over the next couple of months, so any advice is appreciated!

Hair clogging shower drain problem!

Hey all! I’m currently staying at my aunts house for like 7 weeks and the other day I washed my hair which ended up disrupting her draining system. She advised me to stop washing my hair due to the old drainage pipes and wash my hair at a salon. It’s her house so I respect her wishes 100% but is there a way to combat this? She has a rectangular drain so I was thinking of buying this mesh filter from Amazon. The second photo is what the drain looks like in the shower. What can I do? I just started my hair journey and planned to wash weekly. I feel like everything is crashing down rn. Should I just go to a salon every week? (I am searching for some good ones which are cheap) or should I speak to her and show her some alternatives? I don’t wanna ruin her system at all just very discouraged. Any advice to help combat this would be very much appreciated! 🥲❤️

First 4c hair wash and go, thoughts?

Hey guys! This is my first wash and go, it’s day 1 and I actually just finished doing it and diffusing it. However I don’t think it looks good at all, maybe my expectations were high. I like the side the problem is the front rlly the hairs laid down but now they have dried in an upward position. Not sure if this can be fixed or it’s just my hair type. I tried diffusing and picking at it maybe that’s where I messed up but any advice for my next one? Idek what to change or add or do anymore. Moreover it makes me look more masculine. Hopefully the next few days I’ll see smth better.

Advice on products?

Hi all!! I’m trying to go all natural this year. I’ve done some research and gotten all the products I’d realistically need. I am planning to start with wash and go’s. My question however is are the products I got good? Any swaps? Anything to ditch? Moreover I have fine strands, high shrinkage and decent density.

My routine (from all the videos I’ve watched):

  1. When I take out my braids I’ll spray water apply the pre shampoo and finger detangle
  2. Shampoo
  3. Conditioner - detangle here
  4. Deep conditioner, leave on while I shower and wash it off at the end

Styling
5. Mousse
6. Curl maker

For other products:
7. Pick - To stretch out my hair after it dries
8. Brush - heard it was good for detangling on 4c hair
9. Satin scrunchies - less friction
10. Spray bottle
11. Oil

Any advice or tips would be helpful 😓
