Family’s weird response

my hair is naturally thick and coarse. I tried to do mini twists for the first time months ago and they came out all different sizes but looked pretty good considering. My family refused to give me compliments letting me know they thought it looked bad. Then I redid the style but aimed to make them medium size. I noticed I lost so much hair!!! 😢😢😢😢 I still did the style but I have a lot less twists ugh. My family gave me compliments then 😑😒

When you’ve been growing your hair out for 3 years but the high top makes it look short

Fine hair & knotting

Hey all! I’ve seen a lot of discourse online about how fine stranded hair is highly prone to knotting and that the best way to tackle it is by blow-drying it every 1-2 weeks

As someone with fine hair, is this true? Can I grow out my fine-strand hair without blow-drying it that often? I don’t want to make any mistakes since I’m just starting my hair journey, but I also don’t want to cause heat damage.

Knotting is inevitable, but should I really take what feels like such an extreme measure, like heat training my hair?

Best products to define 4c hair coils + retain length ?

(Edit: thanks to Reddit I know now that I have 4b type)

Hi everybody, first time posting here. I want to wear my natural hair more often. I’m looking for products that will help me define my coils and also retain length because the shrinkage is real lol. I think I have low porosity dry hair.

(I live in a European country )

*The first pictures are after I washed and use Blue Magic pomade. Last one is with Xtreme gel

Just combed out my locs

As the text says I combed out my locs about a month ago. I’ve had them since 4th grade and I’m just graduating HS. I think I’ve got the basics down I have like 4b/4c hair and It’s medium porosity I believe. I detangle and wash weekly, though if I knew more about what to do I could prob push it to biweekly. I have a decent afro with a fresh blowout, but the shrinkage is getting me🫩

All this to basically ask either how to maintain a fluffy afro orrr how to get all my hair to coil/curl like certain portions in my hair because I also wanna try that.

Why is everything sulfate free???

It’s annoying! Years ago when I started learning about my own hair I also learned that I have very silky, feathery, coily strands but I need to moisturize and seal It daily or even every other day. My hair feels best and most healthy when I use heavy butters and seal with oils/serums. I saw the most progress when I did this while washing it once a week. This all came to a standstill when the mass hystera surrounding sulfates began, and companies started to remove them from their formulations.

The shampoo that I used to use is no longer in production, so ive been looking to find something with a similar formulation and it’s just been so frustrating because everything is sulfate free, silicone free, organic, all vegan or whatever but my hair really does love the “bad” ingredients. When I tried to go all natural my hair was very dry with lots of breakage. I wish we could stop this no sulfate nonsense 😩

Coily vs Curly Hair — what’s the diff and why your routine might be off 🤷‍♀️

Alright, we keep seeing people mix up curly vs coily hair, so here’s a super simple breakdown that might actually help you figure out what your hair needs (and why some routines just don’t hit).

Curly hair (Type 3A–3C)
Think: looser spirals, bounce, a bit more swing to it.

  • 3A: Big, loose curls that start up near the crown. Usually softer and smoother, but can get weighed down pretty easily if you go heavy on products.
  • 3B: Tighter ringlets (like marker-sized). Loads of volume because the curls stack on each other. You’ll probs notice shrinkage once it dries.
  • 3C: Tight corkscrew curls (around pencil size). More dense and textured, but also way more prone to drying out.

Coily hair (Type 4A–4C)
Think: tight, springy coils with more shrinkage and a bit more fragility.

  • 4A: Small, defined coils with an “S” pattern. Still super full, but a bit less shrinkage compared to other type 4s.
  • 4B: More zigzag than spiral. Coils look less defined and the hair’s usually more fragile + porous, so moisture is everything.
  • 4C: Tightest coils of the lot. Can look less defined unless stretched, heaps of shrinkage, and needs the most TLC to avoid breakage.

Why it actually matters

This isn’t just hair typing for fun, it changes how you should care for it:

  • Looser curls (3A–3C) → usually better with lighter products so you don’t flatten your curl pattern
  • Tighter coils (4A–4C) → need way more moisture, layering (leave-ins, creams), and gentle handling
  • As you move from 3 → 4, you’ll generally see more shrinkage, dryness, and breakage risk

End of the day, no one fits perfectly into one box, but knowing where you roughly sit makes a massive difference.

Where’s everyone at on this? And what routines/products actually worked vs totally flopped

How often do you detangle and wet your hair?

Im wondering how to avoid breakage on 4b/4c hair?

My hairdresser , why the same hair type as me, told me to wet, condition and detangle my hair daily, but others say the opposite.

What advice is the best?

I’m very new to wash n go‘s and don’t feel like I still know how to do it. what do you guys think of the above pic? Does it look good or bad? I got it done professionally but it’s still not as defined as I want it to be. Second day was a lot worse

Help

Did a wash last night and I have really bad breakage in the back middle of my head, what should I do to stop that breakage from continuing to happen? I’m trying to retain length as well as keep my hair healthy

Also recommended heat protectants?

Best order + routine for K18, Skala, Virgin Hair Fertilizer, Sulfur 8, Blue Magic & Wild Growth on short 3C-4A curls?

Hi! I have short 3C-4A curly hair and I’m focused on growth + length retention while keeping my curls defined. I’ll upload pics of my hair and the products.

Products I have:
• K18 Leave-In Molecular Repair
• Skala Divino Potão (light pink) — my current leave-in/curler cream
• Virgin Hair Fertilizer
• Sulfur 8
• Blue Magic
• Wild Growth oil
• Nutrafol hair vitamin (I’ve been taking this daily)

I want to combine everything without weighing my short hair down or causing buildup, especially near my hairline.
What I’m thinking:
On wash days (damp hair): K18 first (wait 4+ min), then Skala, then a small scalp mix of Fertilizer + Sulfur 8 + Wild Growth + Blue Magic massaged in, air dry or low diffuse.

Questions:

• Best layering order to use all these together?
• Favorite mixes/recipes for the growth stuff (Fertilizer + Sulfur 8 + Blue Magic + Wild Growth)? How much of each?
• How often for the full scalp treatment vs lighter refresh days?
• Tips for short curly hair so it stays defined and not greasy?
• Realistic timeline — how long until people usually notice less breakage or actual growth with this combo?
Any routines, warnings, or experiences would help a ton. Thanks! ❤️

Hair texture advice

Always been told I have 4C hair, and I’m pretty sure I do.
My hair shrinks up and coils after I shower in the morning. I use coconut oil to moisturize and wash every 1-1/2 week(s).

Any advice on how to maximize my hair care? Or if this is even 4C at all? Thanks all!

Coily or curly hair tips

So, I have coily/curly hair and want to grow out the top part so that it kinda covers my forehead. Now, it reaches until my eyebrows when I stretch it out, but if I dont it's like 1 or 2 inches untouched. While it's wet, the hair kinda takes the shape I want it to, but once it's dry it goes all messy again. What should I do to achieve a wet hair look and what type of haircut should I ask my barber to give me? The image shows the hair that I want but it's longer and the curls are more tight, and no skin fade

Balding? Help!

Hey guys, I need some help. This year was really hard on me, I had family issues, lost almost all my friends and dropped over 20kgs. As a result, I started balding I got prescribed oral minoxidil 1.5mg in May but my bald spot is only getting bigger. I know minoxidil takes time but what else can I do to fix this? It started off as mild thinning and now it’s like this. I don’t do braids with added hair or anything that will cause heavy tension on my hair. I just stick to low tension two strand twists. I’ve gotten the cécred edge drops and the ordinary hair peptide serum for hair density in hopes that will help me somehow. Moreover I’m only 19 so I don’t understand why the balding is alr happening 😓
