How common is for ovaries to fail even when preserved?

That’s the question! I have read that some people’s ovaries stop working after hysterectomy (and therefore causing menopause), and wondered how common this is!

Did you have severe symptoms before getting a hysterectomy?

Gaslighting myself as I dont seem to have severe symptoms. I have heavy bleeding for sure, but no giant clots as some people describe. Also I’m not in pain all the time, when I have pain is not severe. My main issue is the bleeding (and everything that comes with a ferritin of 4!)

Transitioning since January after 30 yrs relaxing. Need help assessing my natural root pattern!

Hey everyone!

I had my last relaxer on January 10th after having my hair relaxed since I was 5 years old, so I've literally never seen my real hair texture before!

I’m trying to figure out what my natural curl pattern/type looks like as my new growth comes in, but I'm having a hard time reading it.

Based on these root pictures, what curl pattern or texture range does this look like to you? Also, any tips for managing this specific texture at the demarcation line while transitioning would be so appreciated!
Thanks!

How long did you take off work after a robotic hysterectomy?

Hi all! I WFH in a fairly demanding job (mentally), but as I mention I do work from home. How many weeks off would you suggest? I have no idea what to expect! Im also incredibly nervous about this surgery.. any encouragement welcomed.

Thank you!!

Adenomyosis on one MRI but not another, and bicornuate uterus vs septate uterus

Hi all,

37F with a history of heavy menstrual bleeding, pelvic pain, and painful ovulation.

I have had two pelvic MRIs performed a few months apart, and the findings differ significantly:

MRI 1 (cycle day ~11):
Reported adenomyosis (thickened junctional zone)
Uterus described as bicornuate
Minor tethering between the posterior uterus and distal small bowel

MRI 2 (cycle day ~20):
Reported a fully septate uterus (ESGE/ESHRE U2b)
No definite adenomyosis
No deep infiltrating endometriosis identified
Endometrium measured 14 mm and 13 mm in the two cavities

My questions are:

Can a complete septate uterus make assessment of adenomyosis more challenging or less reliable?

Is it more likely that one radiologist interpreted the findings differently, or can adenomyosis genuinely be more conspicuous on one scan than another?
Is the discrepancy between “bicornuate uterus” and “fully septate uterus” more concerning than the adenomyosis discrepancy?

I understand nobody can interpret my scans without seeing them; I’m just trying to understand how specialists would approach these differing MRI reports.

Did anyone’s blood pressure improve after hysterectomy?

I’m curious whether anyone noticed an improvement in their blood pressure after having a hysterectomy (with or without keeping the ovaries).

I have adenomyosis with very heavy periods and a history of significant iron deficiency. I’ve seen a few comments from people saying their blood pressure improved after surgery, and I’m wondering how common that is.

I have borderline bp, that has gotten slightly worse over the last few years. Would be amazing if the hysterectomy helped this!

Am I crazy for considering a hysterectomy mainly because of heavy bleeding?

I have confirmed adenomyosis and my main symptom is heavy, prolonged periods (8–9 days) that have caused iron deficiency. I do have pain, but it’s not severe every single cycle. Some months are worse than others.

The thing is, I don’t really have many treatment options I’m comfortable with. Because of my anatomy (bicornuate uterus), some of the usual alternatives aren’t straightforward, and I don’t want hormonal birth control.

Part of me wonders if I’m overreacting by choosing a hysterectomy when I’m not in debilitating pain every month. On the other hand, I’m tired of planning my life around bleeding, iron tablets, fatigue, and wondering whether symptoms will continue to get worse over time.

I also can’t shake the feeling that if I know the uterus is the source of the problem and I don’t want any more children, I’d rather remove the diseased organ than spend years managing symptoms.

Has anyone else chosen hysterectomy primarily because of bleeding, anemia, or quality-of-life issues rather than constant severe pain? Do you feel it was the right decision?

Anyone with hydrocephalus, IIH, or other causes of increased intracranial pressure who had a hysterectomy?

I’m scheduled for a robotic hysterectomy later this year and have a history of obstructive hydrocephalus due to aqueductal stenosis. I had an ETV many years ago and have been stable since then, and the recent MRI flow study shows good flow.

One thing that’s making me nervous is the surgical positioning used during robotic hysterectomy (called Trendelenburg, where you’re tilted head-down). From what I’ve read, this can temporarily increase intracranial pressure.

My neurosurgeon has cleared me for surgery, but I’d really love to hear peoples experiences from anyone who has increased pressure in their head and had robotic hysterectomy.

A few questions:

Did your neurosurgeon have any concerns before surgery?
Did the anaesthesia team make any special accommodations?
Did you experience headaches, vision changes, dizziness, or any pressure related symptoms after surgery?
How long was your surgery, and how steep was the Trendelenburg position (if you know)?
Looking back, was the ICP issue a non-event, or did it affect your recovery?

I’m aware everyone is different and I’m not looking for medical advice, just hoping to hear from others who have been through something similar. I’m a bit nervous about this!

Thanks!

What’s my hair type?

I genuinely have never seen my natural hair texture properly before because my mum relaxed it when I was very young and then continued relaxed/blow dried it most of my life 😅

These pics are my roots/wet hair with a few months of new growth (about 18 weeks). I want to stop relaxing and embrace my natural hair finally.

What do you guys think my curl pattern actually is? I know hair typing isn’t everything, but I’m curious because I’m transitioning for the first time and trying to understand my hair better.
(Also aware mixed textures are common!)
