BCA Student entering Cybersecurity & Dev: Should I switch to Linux, Dual-Boot, or just stick to Windows with WSL2/VMs?
Hey everyone,
I’m currently a BCA student learning web development and actively taking a cybersecurity course. I need access to a lot of testing, development, and penetration testing tools.
As you can see in image.png and image_2.png, I’m running Windows 11 on a Lenovo laptop with a 13th Gen Intel i5-13450HX, 24GB of RAM, and an NVIDIA RTX 3050 (6GB).
Given my career goals, I'm trying to decide the best operating system setup:
- Should I wipe Windows and switch completely to Linux?
- Should I dual-boot Windows and a dedicated security distro?
- Or is it better to stick to Windows and run Linux tools through VMs (VirtualBox/VMware) or WSL2?
If I choose Linux, I need something that can easily handle my NVIDIA drivers without breaking. What configuration would you recommend for someone building a career in cybersecurity and development with this hardware?
Thanks!
