I Hate This Job

I apologize for my ensuing rant…

But I loathe working here. Everything was fine in the beginning tbh. My coworkers were friendly and helpful, the workload didn’t seem bad, and the pay was good for a retail position imo. After my first week though, I’ve started to see why the turnover rate for the Cashier position was so high.

I’ve worked a handful of customer service jobs, and have always ultimately enjoyed them. Not every job can be great all of the time, and I can typically find the good in things enough to stick to a job. But this one already has me refreshing Indeed and LinkedIn every other minute.

For one, management sucks. They’re all friendly and we get along one-on-one, but their cohesiveness is awful. I’ve been an Assistant Manager before (at a smaller retail store, to their benefit), but never have I seen such contradictory directions from Supervisors that are supposed to work together to create a smooth working team. No one, and I mean NO ONE, is on the same page. With ANYTHING.

Standards are extremely high for how underemployed we are. Trying to finish all the racks, recover the store, watch fitting rooms, customer service, and clean up our individual sections is nearly impossible. Supervisors seem to be more interested in grilling us to do contradictory things and help those in the back meet quotas than helping all 5 of us up front get caught up.

More or less something to complain about, but I started nearly a month ago, so my sick time hasn’t accrued and my benefits haven’t started. I found out I was pregnant last week (while already having an autoimmune disease that makes my hands and feet swell), and have had to call out approximately 3 times due to illness. Pretty sure they’re beginning to get pissed after explaining my situation, and working hard when I am there despite how sick and exhausted I am.

I understand I need to be there and they technically don’t have to allow me to miss so much work, but c’mon it’s not like I’m calling out multiple days in a row! They literally watched me throw up on the break room floor the other day. 😭 Meanwhile, they all but ignored the schedule I said I could work when I first started.

This place sucks and I can’t wait to be out of here! Debating no call, no showing and just doing DoorDash in the meantime until I land something else, or until I give birth considering my partner works enough to support us until then. ☹️

3 Days Late - Positive?

Hi, everyone! I’m currently 3 days late for my period, and I’m typically pretty spot on. I took a test today since my boyfriend and I have been “trying” (we are happy either way, but leaning towards trying!). Does this look like a faint positive?

Reconsolidating Student Loans

Hi, everyone!

I’m not in much debt (compared to most people), but would love some insight into how I could dwindle down what I currently owe through a reconsolidation loan. I understand what one is, but I have no clue if it’s worth getting for myself, or how to even inquire about one.

My debt is racked up to $4,671.67 between two student loans — FAFSA and Sallie Mae. My interest rates are 15.78% and 6.53%. I was out of a job for a few months, and finally got one a couple weeks ago so I’ve been playing catch up. While I can pay these amounts, money is tight and I’m looking to pay these off as quickly as possible, or at the least lower my rates.

Any advice or insight would be extremely helpful for this clueless 25 year old!

I’m having a difficult time with my new move…

My boyfriend [26M] and I [25F] have been together for a year, as of this month. So far, we’ve been long-distance with an hour commute going one way. Seeing each other only on the weekends has been a struggle, and because our relationship has been good, we decided to get a place together.

We started moving preparations this past week, and it’s honestly been a bit more difficult on me emotionally than I anticipated.

My entire adulthood, I’ve lived in a small coastal town with my best friend as my roommate. I loved seeing the ocean every day, being so close to the forest, and built so many friendships — which is important, as I have no family who even remotely lives close by. I had a job I adored at a locally owned bookstore, and where I intimately knew everyone I worked with. Even though rent was expensive, I felt at home there.

My boyfriend, on the other hand, didn’t want to live on the coast because of the “perennial dreariness”. He didn’t want to leave his well-paying job due to the amount of years he’d put in, the friendships he’d made, and because he dislikes change (and, again, the good money). I’m a bit more lenient in a lot of ways, so I did the bulk of moving.

At first, I saw it as a chance for a fresh start. And, of course, because I got to see my love every day! Which is still the case, even right now when I’m a bit sad over this whole thing.

The town I now live in is a bit more dreary, with far less nature unless we go towards the outskirts. I know no one here besides my boyfriend, and now even my closest friend lives an hour and a half away. The job market is scarce, and I have a gut feeling I’m going to have to settle for a job that I’m going to hate and doesn’t feel like me after absolutely adoring my work the last few years.

There’s no bookshops, I’m scared to take my dog to go to the park for fear of needles lying around, all the coffee shops are chain instead of cozy, locally owned ones. I don’t feel at home and I absolutely want to cry. I keep trying to look at the positives, but I feel so foreign here and hate it!

Hopefully, time will held soothe out my distress.

Best Safeway Bacon?

Good morning (at least in my time zone), everyone!

I woke up early this morning and would like to cook my boyfriend a good breakfast, which includes bacon. My issue is that I am vegetarian, and I have no clue which bacon to buy from the store! Our only grocery store is Safeway. I’d prefer something more high quality (and one not pumped with water, because apparently that’s a thing?) and less fatty, if possible. I know he likes it crispy, but I don’t know if that necessarily is affected by brand?

Please give this clueless, vegetarian girlfriend some ideas!
