It’s things like this that make me glad I invested in a hardware FIDO2 token. We work hard to make things easier for the end user until…oops…guess that made it too easy.
Don’t kid yourself that TOTP and 2FA are “just as good” as FIDO2.
Old QNAP TS-419P is detected but I can’t log in. trying not to mess up the data
I’m trying to recover data from an old QNAP TS-419P and want to be really careful before I do anything stupid. It's my family photographs, and we haven't been able to access is (my techy dad passed a few years ago).
The NAS is showing up in Qfinder. It’s running firmware 4.3.3.0404 / build 20171213. I can ping it, and ports 80 and 8080 are open. The browser login page loads, but when I try to log in I get:
'Login failed. There was no response from the server'.
I did the 3-second reset and got the single beep. Since it’s QTS 4.3.3, I believe the login should be admin/admin after that, but it still gives the same 'no response from server' error.
The main status light is flashing red/green, and one of the drive bays appears to be flashing red. I haven’t removed, replaced or reordered any drives. I haven’t initialised, formatted, factory reset, or updated firmware.
I’m mainly trying to recover the data.. Does this sound like degraded RAID/a failing drive causing QTS to half-load? What would be the safest next step here?
Going to contact qnap before I do anything, but wanted to check here too.
