Bands You Regret Never Seeing Live

Bands You Regret Never Seeing Live

I got see to see lots of great bands live: Elton John, Journey (with Steve Perry), Eagles, Fleetwood Mac, Heart, and more.

The Stones were always the one that got away. I was never in the right place at the right time.

Who was your band that got away?

Headcheese or liverwurst sandwiches

Never did the headcheese but a liverwurst sandwich was my favorite cheap meal.

Are there some cold cuts you used to eat but don't see around much anymore?

Long before GPS became a thing....

...there were road maps. Tell me if I'm crazy, but did I see a commercial recently that featured that tiger in a speaking role??

My parents grew up during the Depression, so they never threw anything away. That includes the box and insert/instructions that came with our Biltwel Nursery Rhyme (baby) shoes. The Barber Barber nursery rhyme is new to me, but I know all the others.

These shoes were made exclusively for sale by Sears Roebuck and Co. My family shopped frequently at Sears. I was sad to see them go out of business.

What concert tickets USED TO COST!

I saved a lot - not nearly all - off my old concert ticket stubs from the late 70s through the 80s and here is a list of the concerts and the prices of what I could find:

Bruce Springsteen at Red Rocks, Morrison, CO August 16th, 1981 $13.75. It rained hard for a bit but the band never quit!

Allman Brothers Band Red Rocks August 10th, 1980. $10.45 Great concert!

Frank Zappa Boulder, CO April 10th, 1980 $8.00. Fantastic concert and the very first ever concert at what then was the brand new CU Events Center.

Santana at the Paolo Soleri in Santa Fe, NM October 8th, 1988 $17.50. I mean, it was Santana and the Paolo Soleri was a great outdoor venue.

The Who Madison Square Garden, NYC September 13th, 1979 $12.50. One of my life's regrets is never getting to see the Who with Keith Moon.

Colorado Sunday Folsom Field, Boulder CO $11.00. This is a full afternoon and evening with Country Joe, Bob Welch, Poco, the Doobie Brothers, and topped by Boston.

The Who October 17th. 1982 Folsom Field $16.00. John Mellancamp/Cougar was the opening act and got booed for Jack and Diane.

Yes at the Tingley Collesium in Albuquerque, NM March 31st, 1984 $13.00. I actually saw Yes several times in NYC, New Jersey, and Santa Fe, NM.

Lots of other concerts in those days but these are ticket stubs I still had.

From 1976, The Bauble Hymn of the Republic

As an alternative to "teacher hit me with a ruler", a Mad magazine ode to all the Bicentennial merch.

International, Ford, Dodge, Chevy, Buick, Cadillac, AMC, and even Volkswagen had special edition vehicles to celebrate the United States of America’s Bicentennial. Happy Independence Day!

These were my favorite 'fireworks' growing up. The sparkly ones were pretty, but they made me nervous. I can still remember the smell of these--very similar to the smoke from those old coal-fired steam locomotives.

Remember Chain Letters? Found a funny one my mother had tucked away. They would send me into a panic.
