Is there a hiking backpack with an ergonomic seat?

I got my husband a MEC hiking backpack (secondhand) for his birthday and he really likes it, and my son (14 months) seemed comfortable in it when he tried it on, but I just noticed that the seat is basically just like a jolly jumper seat and doesn’t look very ergonomic? Like he’s basically dangling by his crotch?

Is this just how these hiking backpack carriers are or is there one out there with a more hammock-like seat like you would get from a wrap or regular carrier? It’s not like we’re hiking every weekend but I would like him to be comfortable on a longer hike if needed.

Is inconsistency just my life now?

My son (13.5 months) used to reliably sleep 8pm-7am with 1 wake up. Then he dropped his snooze feed and started sleeping through the night. Then he dropped his second nap and things were great for a while. Then we started having early morning wakes because he was napping longer in total on one nap than he was by the time he actually fell asleep on two naps.

We added awake time and he finally stopped waking up at 5am but his wake up time is still SO inconsistent despite me neurotically keeping everything else about his sleep consistent literally to the minute. He wakes up for the day any time between 5:45 and 6:45 (our DWT). I never get him out of bed before 6:30. He is put down for his nap at 12pm sharp and woken up at 2pm. Bedtime is 8:15pm. Yesterday I had to wake him up for the day at 6:45, he took a perfect 2-hour nap, went down beautifully for bedtime, but he was up for the day at 5:45 today. The day before he took a 90-minute nap, cried going down for bed, woke up once through the night crying, but then slept until I woke him for the day yesterday morning.

I know what you’re thinking - obviously that means he needs more awake time? But some days when he takes that perfect nap and sleeps till wake time, the next night he sleeps perfect. And some days when he takes a shit nap, he wakes up early the next day. It’s literally all over the place. I have no idea how to fix anything because I can’t get any consistency out of him. So I just keep applying the same bedtime and DWT and some days it goes great and other days it’s garbage and it’s driving me crazy. Is this just motherhood? He used to be so consistent but I just can’t seem to get him figured out these days😭

Does overtired actually cause EMWs at 12 months+?

My son is almost 13 months and has been on one nap for about a month. At first it was going great, but in the last week or 2 we have started having EMWs. What I think is happening is that he was fighting his naps for 20+ minutes on 2 naps so he was actually only napping about 90 minutes each day, and now on 1 nap he is quite tired at nap time so he is actually sleeping a full 2 hours for his nap.

The problem is I’ve tried moving bedtime later to account for this and it doesn’t seem to be making a difference. I can’t shorten his nap because he is at daycare 5 days a week and nap time is 2 hours long, and they won’t wake the kids early. Could it be that he is overtired from too long of a wake window before bed and I’m actually perpetuating the EMWs by pushing bedtime in an effort to keep awake time the same? He doesn’t seem overtired at bedtime. Tired, yes, but in my opinion not overtired. If so, what do I even do about this? 2 naps wasn’t working anymore and now it feels like things are worse on one nap? Help me

EMWs on one nap

My son is just over 12.5 months. We’ve been on 1 nap for about 3 weeks and it was going really well for the first 2 weeks. The last week or so, he has started having early morning wakes between 5 and 6am when he was previously sleeping 8pm-7am.

I’ve made sure that he has the same amount of awake time since switching to one nap. His wake windows are 5/6. On 2 naps, they were 3.25/3.75/4. What do I do? He’s in daycare 5 days a week so I only have so much control over what goes on there. Please help, I’m so tired

Sanity check my 2-1 nap transition thought process please

Babe is 12 months old. He has been on 2 naps since just before 6 months old- he’s always been early to dropping a nap.

Current schedule is 3.25/3.75/4. He is sleep trained for both nights and naps. He recently started sleeping completely through the night (8/8:15pm-7am) and since then has been taking longer to fall asleep for his naps. Based on advice we got here, any time he started fighting naps on the 2 nap schedule we would shorten the first nap and shimmy the second nap a little earlier to extend the last wake window.

The problem we’re running into now is that he is taking too long to fall asleep for the first nap, so we’re running out of room to cap it.

What I’ve started doing is just capping nap 1 at 11am no matter how long it takes him to fall asleep. Sometimes that means nap 1 is less than 30 minutes long. I’ve just kept his second nap at 2:55 at this point because first nap isn’t ending any earlier. I figured I can always put him down earlier for second nap if first nap is really short and he seems like he needs to go down early, but this never happens lol

I guess my thought is that if we always cap nap 1 at 11, eventually he just won’t fall asleep in time and we’ll know then that it’s time to go to one nap?

On the days that he also fights the second nap, sometimes he ends up with a 30 minute first nap and 50 minute second nap, which is only 1 hour 20 minutes instead of the 2ish hours of day sleep he normally takes… I think my question here is: am I going to cause problems with this strategy? Will it just even itself out over the course of a few days?

I’d love if anyone could just share their thoughts about this. Any tweaks you’d make or advice or even just if you think I’m stupid lol idk what I’m doing here
