Beginner tips

Hi guys! Recently me and my uncle made a promise that if i passed all of my recent exams he would get me millipedes, and guess who passed all her exams!

We’re going to go have a look tomorrow and obviously i have been researching, but I’d like some specific recommendations if that’s okay from more experienced people.

  1. What size tank would you guys recommend? I know it’s dependent on what millipedes you get, but is there an agreed average size that fits all?

  2. What millipedes are the best for beginners and which ones are housed best together? I want to get some Giant African and some bumblebee and stuff, but I’m worried the bumblebees will get crushed.

  3. What are your favourite fruits and vegetables to feed them? I want to treat them and make a good first impression

  4. What soil would you guys recommend and what plants do you find are favourites?

  5. Can I add them and the springtails straight away? Just because my uncle wants to get like everything tomorrow I guess, and I want to make sure they don’t like uproot the plants

  6. Is cuttlefish bone or calcium powder better, and do you just leave the bone out in the litter or do you break a bit off in a water dish? I’ve heard that you can put them in the water but I don’t want to give them too much calcium if that’s a thing.

  7. Should I get all females? I’ve read it’s hard for them to breed, but I’ve also read crossbreeding is an issue and stresses them out. And also females live longer from what I’ve been told and I want to give them the best little lives.

  8. How long should I wait before handling them?

  9. What do you find their favourite things are to eat in the substrate? I know they get most of their food from all the dying wood and leaves and other organic matter, but what do you find are common favourites to get them to like me?

  10. What are your best millipede names?

  11. How often do you mist?

  12. I’ve seen people say get a heat mat but I also own a snake, and I’ve had concerns before with her burning herself if she had a head mat (she has an overhead lamp with a cage around it), can I do the same with the millipedes?

  13. If I can’t have an overhead lamp, how do I set the heat mat up?

  14. How much clutter do I have to add?

  15. How often do I clean them out?

  16. How often do I add fresh fruit?

  17. Do I add a light, and what brand or wattage do you guys find work best?

  18. Would the enclosure work if it’s tall instead of long? The snake enclosure takes up a lot of desk space, and I was wondering if the enclosure being tall works as well as it would if it was long? Or if not, can I substitute the millipedes for cockroaches?

Sorry I have so many questions, I have looked at forums and videos but they still leave me with a lot of questions.

hi!! i touched and fired my first bow today

as you saw the main title of this post, I handled and shot from my first bow today! it was this like cool practice thing and I got to fire 12 arrows throughout my day at the event the archery was at
on my first shot I hit the inner blue ring so im super proud because that was my first time handling a bow (it was a recurve one I think)!!
I also hit gold in my third arrow and I hit the board every time
i think i did good and could any professionals tell me if this is like a sign i should do more archery? or is it just my little beginner luck

if i should keep going with it what bow and what arrows would be best? and is it necessary to have a brace?

sorry if this seems like a bragging post, ive always want to do archery but this has been a selling point for me and i want to know if it would be worth it, thank you for reading!! <33

I feel like the worst person in the world, not only the worst owner
she escaped while I was at school and im having a panic attack typing this I’ve searched my whole house and she’s nowhere
I own a cat so I’d hate to think what might’ve happened
I don’t understand how or where she could’ve gone she’s bright pink and like 4 foot long I don’t know how she hasn’t been found it’s been 2 hours of searching
I know she ally hope she hasn’t gone under the floor or been killed
all anyone can talk about is the fact my room is messy (after they pulled everything out onto the floor to look)
everyone’s mad at me even though the vent on the back was loose and I can’t fix it properly and it happened when I wasn’t in the house
what can I do?
where can I look?

sorry to vent
