Went to Treble Cone last season and my jacket completely blew out in a fall — what are you guys actually wearing over there?
Did a trip to Treble Cone last winter first time going to NZ for snow and had one of the worst bails of my life. The fall itself was fine, walked away from it, protective gear did what it was supposed to. What got me was the cold afterwards. The jacket basically split open on impact. Not a small rip wind was pouring straight through. By the time I got down I was properly frozen, ended up with a chest infection that wiped out the rest of the trip and most of the weeks after.
Already planning to go back. The terrain over there is incredible and I'm not done with it. But I'll be honest — I'm probably going to hit the deck again. That's just part of riding terrain like that. What I can't have is my shell turning into a wind tunnel halfway down the mountain.
Every review I read focuses on waterproofing and warmth. Nobody talks about what happens to a jacket when it actually gets dragged across ice or rock. Is it a fabric thing? A construction thing? Did I just buy something underpowered for that kind of terrain?
For those who've done NZ what are you wearing that's actually held up?
