Today I lost My phone how to recover Duplicate sim
Hi all,
My phone (along with the SIM) was lost/stolen at Khardah railway station a couple of days back. The Airtel number is registered in my late father's name — he has passed away, so the original registered owner is no longer alive.
I've already:
- Filed a police complaint through the local police's online app and got a registration/complaint number
- Registered on the Sanchar Saathi app and got a status ID
- try to block Temporarily the SIM via Airtel customer care, But options are haptic, tried many times.
Now I want to get a duplicate SIM issued for the same number, but since the SIM is in my late father's name, I'm not sure how the process works in this case — whether it's a straightforward duplicate SIM, or if it counts as an ownership transfer requiring death certificate + legal heir documents.
Questions:
- Since the registered owner has passed away, does Airtel treat this as duplicate SIM or ownership transfer?
- What documents are required — death certificate, legal heir certificate, NOC from other family members?
- Does the police complaint reg. number / Sanchar Saathi status ID help speed this up?
- Any recent (2026) first-hand experience with this specific situation — how long did it take?
Would really appreciate guidance from anyone who's been through this. Thanks.
