Sociology professor resigned from Cambridge after plagiarism row

UK academic circles are talking about this guy. His phd, research, CV, claims about book authorship, marathon runs, autism, being a visiting professor etc have so many outrageous lies and controversies that it has become a comedy at this point. People are even pointing at the structural problem of the academia, how such an obvious fraud wasn’t exposed earlier?

He was advertised as the youngest black professor of Cambridge. So the diversity equity thing is also being discussed. Lastly the issue of racism. Right up to when his misdeeds were proven, he and the Cambridge authority were denying every accusation as racism.

What's a historical event where the mainstream narrative is completely wrong?

Recently went through the history of the 1971 Indo-Pak war. I knew from childhood that it was exaggerated. Still, the scale of nationalistic myth and propaganda kinda shocked me.

Do share if you know any historical event where the truth is very different from mainstream perception of that event.

I'm a Bangladeshi guy. AMA about 1971 war

I don't consider Pakistan as the sole villain of 1971. Although Pakistan army did commit some war crimes but it had a background. Separation was maybe inevitable but it didn’t have to be so quick and violent. Mainstream historical narrative of 1971 war and its background are full of lies and propaganda. Especially the hidden genocide of non-bengali people.

I've come to pity president Yahya Khan. He was out of option. Any honest responsible man would have done something similar. Extraordinary evil like Awami League and Sheikh family are impossible to deal with.

Don't be sorry for 1971. Individual army/govt officials will be judged by Allah for their crimes. I've come to my conclusion through years of history study, real life experience and social science knowledge.

How do you tackle a dog encounter during run

I try to be safe and slow down to fast walk in order to not startle the dog. I was chased by dogs a few times during run. Though they were harmless types, chasing me for less than 10 seconds.

When I locate a dog, I slow down. When I'm within 10-20 feet distance from the dog, I fast walk. Then speed up after passing it. If the dog is playful, agitated, barking, hyper active etc then I take even more time walking to ensure I don't provoke unnecessary attention.

Republican senator Lindsey Graham Is dead

He was one of the most pro war US politician. Advocated for US war of aggression in Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria, Libya, Yemen and so on. It's hard to find a single US war of aggression that he didn’t support. South Carolina people kept electing him as their representative for 3 decades.

His long dream of attacking Iran was finally fulfilled last year with US-Iran war. A strong supporter of Gaza genocide. He is part of the US generation who had unquestioned loyalty towards zionism.

Liberals have this cartoonish view of Trump being the source of all evill. But we have to look at the big picture. May Allah give him justice for all his actions.

Working women and mental health

Most of the working women I know are either mentally sick or have terrible marriage and family situations. I'm getting tired of seeing this pattern over and over again.

These women are high academic achievers, have a good job, high income, own house, good looking, good husband and so on. So they look very successful, happy and accomplished from outside. But they lead a miserable life inside.

Some girls are good at hiding their problems, some take up a huge amount of social-economic-emotional support from surroundings to function but you can tell something isn’t right, some divert the craziness into backbiting-toxicity-abuse-helicopter wife/mother. Some find God, some take medicine-therapy-mental support to keep things under control. If the jobs have less hours, responsibility and work, then girls can manage it. But with promotion, increased work hours and responsibilities, things get worse over time.

Only one distant doctor grandmother of mine can be taken as an exception from this. I'm not generalizing, just sharing my personal experience. Do share if you know a working woman who is somewhat okay in her job, have no mental problem and have a somewhat decent marriage life.
