However, I uploaded my second video today, and it is sitting at 0 impressions.

Everyone knows the controversies surrounding Maddy, from his reported comments defending stalking, to his interactions with young girls, and allegations of cheating. He has also often been described as arrogant.
There’s an interesting story that Manobala, the popular Tamil actor and filmmaker who appeared in more than 700 films, reportedly shared on his YouTube channel before his death.
According to Manobala, director A.R. Murugadoss (ARM) once visited an actor’s house to narrate a script. Halfway through the narration, the actor apparently lost interest and started playing with his pet dog. When ARM questioned him about it, the actor allegedly replied that if the script had been interesting, he wouldn’t have been bored.
ARM reportedly felt humiliated and later told Manobala about the incident. Manobala then encouraged ARM to approach Suriya, who was shooting Pithamagan at the time.
That script eventually became Ghajini, one of ARM’s biggest breakthroughs.
The actor in the original story was Madhavan.
He donated the entire $30 million to animal protection? Couldn’t leave the daughter he gave up for adoption like 1 million to help with the care of the sheep and stuff?
I've spent several months studying Chernobyl and reading as many sources as I could find, including Russian sources, the trial transcripts, official documents, and Dyatlov's own book. The more I learned, the more frustrated I became with how HBO portrayed certain people.
One example: in the show, Legasov says that at least through the trial, scientists would become aware of what really happened. But Legasov wasn't even at the trial. That sentiment was actually expressed by Dyatlov, who fought relentlessly for the truth during the trial and continued doing so afterward. His two co-defendants didn't back him up. If anything, they tried to distance themselves to save their own skins. It didn't work, they all went to prison anyway.
And here's the part that really bothers me: Dyatlov and the operators did not simply break the rules and cause the disaster. The things they are usually accused of doing either had legitimate/necessary reasons behind them or were not violations in the simplistic way the show presents them.
They were used as scapegoats.
Dyatlov's own book essentially ends with the argument that the only cause of Chernobyl was the reactor's design flaw. Not merely one contributing factor. The operators were never properly informed about the dangerous characteristics of the reactor, nor adequately trained to deal with them. That failure of communication is what ultimately doomed Chernobyl.
And honestly, I think Dyatlov is one of the saddest figures in the entire story.

The "unlikable, arrogant, cruel Dyatlov" portrayed in popular culture doesn't match the person who comes through in his own writing. He's sarcastic, funny, loyal, principled, sometimes blunt, and surprisingly warm. He tells personal stories, jokes about himself, and writes with a personality that is completely different from the caricature we're accustomed to.
One detail particularly surprised me: while in prison, Dyatlov wrote letters to Toptunov's parents because he wanted them to know that they had been lied to about their son's responsibility for the disaster.
Think about that.
The man himself was sitting in prison, yet he was still trying to make sure the family of a dead colleague knew the truth. So sweet.
And yet we're supposed to see him as the heartless villain?
I've also seen people say that Dyatlov was made "unlikable" because that's what the real man was supposedly like. But what exactly makes Legasov and Boris so admirable in the HBO version? A heroic speech? A dramatic character arc?
Those are cinematic devices, not evidence of admirable character.
Truth is what should make someone admirable.
And this is where I think HBO's version becomes particularly dangerous. It gives you a convincing narrative, convincing performances, emotional music, dramatic speeches, and characters you immediately understand as heroes and villains.
But Chernobyl wasn't a simple story about heroic scientists fighting evil administrators while reckless operators caused a catastrophe. The real story is much more complicated, and, in my opinion, much more horrifying.
The people who were actually responsible for the reactor's design flaws and the institutional decision to conceal them weren't the same people HBO places at the center of the blame. Legasov and Boris are presented as heroes. Meanwhile, Dyatlov, Toptunov, Akimov and the other operators became the faces of the disaster. I don't blame people for believing it... the show is genuinely well-made, and most viewers have no easy way to access the primary sources. But the gap between the drama and the record is bigger than most people realize.
If you really want to understand what happened, don't stop at HBO. Read the trial transcripts. Read source materials. Read Dyatlov's book. And if you can find it, read Nikolai Karpan's book as well... it's an absolute goldmine for anyone interested in the insider perspective.
