How do you manage curb edges with an e-bike?

I often thought those bike "handling skills" that young riders or experts do on bikes don’t really apply to me, they feel too fancy. When I need to get over a curb, I usually stop and go up slowly, or I just go straight at it (banzai!), until now it worked, even if it made a big “boom”.

But recently I fell because of a curb: the road level and the curb base were not aligned like usual. I tried to park next to it before my move, and my wheel hit the base and I fell.

So I’m wondering how people deal with curbs on e-bikes. Should I stick to flat roads only, or should I learn how to hop curbs?
My bike is 81 LBS.

Puncture-resistant bicycle tire ?

I have a 20x4 fat tire e-bike and I'm looking for ways to make it as puncture-proof as possible.

When I bought the bike, I immediately added FlatOut to both tubes. It worked great, but after 1.5 years and thousands of kilometers, I finally got a puncture anyway. 😅

I noticed a small hole (2mm diameter) in the tire with some dried FlatOut around it, so it looks like the sealant did its job but didn't completely stop the slow leak. Right now I'm having to top up the rear tire every 2 days.

I've already ordered a new inner tube and a patch kit, but while I have everything apart, I'm wondering:

Is there anything else I could put between the tire and the inner tube to prevent future flats, like some badass thing that’ll tell it, “You shall not pass!”?

I prefer to ride for the rest of my life without ever dealing with another flat tire.

Quick Kombucha Wake-Up

I recently switched to making kefir daily, so I left my kombucha SCOBY hotel untouched for about 2 months.

The culture survived fine: no mold, new white SCOBY formed, and there are still brown yeast strands. However, after starting a new batch, fermentation seems noticeably slower than before. After 2 weeks it's still slightly sweet and there are way fewer bubbles than I used to get.

For the more experienced brewers: what's the best way to keep a kombucha culture dormant for 1 to 2 months, but have it restart quickly when brewing again? Any tricks to preserve yeast activity during long breaks?

local AI solution for film dubbing

Looking for a local AI solution for film dubbing / audio sync correction (offline if possible).

I have a foreign movie with an English audio version, but the video is low resolution and the audio timing slowly drifts out of sync over time. If I manually align it at the start, it gradually becomes offset, so I suspect there are missing/extra segments or timing inconsistencies.

What I need is a tool or workflow that can:

  • Listen to the video/audio track
  • Detect dialogue timing
  • Automatically realign or stretch/squeeze audio to match speech in the video
  • Correct drift issues over long duration files (full movies)

Online tools often fail due to file size/length limits, so I’m specifically looking for local software or AI models that can run on a PC.

Any suggestions for tools, pipelines, or approaches appreciated.

KDE Plasma Screenshot like GNOME

After having so many Ubuntu crash caused by my GNOME extensions, I recently switched to KDE Plasma and I’m trying to get my screenshot workflow back to how it feels in GNOME.

https://preview.redd.it/1ol57uflkc0h1.png?width=960&format=png&auto=webp&s=174b8f1f0c73c9ee64be82d0ad8b1d4a4059465a

In GNOME, when I press Print Screen, I instantly get that nice overlay where I can drag-select an area, adjust the corners before capturing, and it just feels very smooth and natural.

In Plasma, I can use Spectacle or gnome-screenshot, but it feels different and not quite the same workflow I’m used to.

Is there any way to bring back the GNOME-style screenshot behavior inside KDE Plasma (especially the immediate selection + adjustable region overlay)?

There are a few things I prefer in GNOME, but Plasma also has good things, like its high customization capability. It would be a shame to switch back to GNOME just because of this missing feature.

Thanks for any tips 🙏

I’m finally giving up on my “bucket engineering” era 😅

Right now, when I need to change my front tire (winter/summer swap), I just shove a bucket under the middle of the bike to lift the front wheel. It works… but every time it feels like I’m balancing a spaceship on a soup can.

I only do this like twice a year, so I never wanted to spend money on one of those big full repair stands.

But honestly, it’s becoming a nightmare each time, so I’m ready to buy something.

What I’m looking for:

  • Just a small/simple stand
  • Only needs to lift the front wheel slightly
  • Works with a heavy ebike
  • Cheap if possible
  • Not one of those giant clamp repair stands

Does something like that exist, like a minimal “front wheel lifter”?

Appreciate any suggestions.
