Lands - REM 700 6.5CM

Working on a load for my 6.5CM using a 140 Berger VLD Target. I measure my lands using a Horandy OAL gauge and get 2.263 CTBO at a COAL of 2.970.

Mag limit is 2.870 (ACIS Magpul).

I would like to ideally be .20-.40 of the lands to try it, but that would put me over mag length and idk if I can load a 6.5CM that long to begin with (safely).

Disregarding mag length for a second. Has anybody ever loaded a 6.5CM at 2.900 for example? Apex Loadpro says it’s longer than the allowed COL, which I think it has listed at 2.825. (Massive jump to the lands)

Should I look at a different type of bullet if I want to get closer to the lands?

Alpha Brass | Follow Up Question

I bought some new Alpha brass today (first time). Thanks for the advice yesterday.

With all the other new brass I’ve ever got (Horandy, Starline, range trash 😅) I put it through the paces.

Anneal
Size
Mandrel
Trim, Chamfer, Deburr
Clean
Primer
Charge
Seat

Question is… do I need to do this to Alpha brass? If not, where should I start?

Starline or Alpha

I know Alpha is superior.

My question is… if I’m still learning and refining my process should I spend the money on Alpha brass, or get Starline so I’m not ruining ultra premium brass?

I have solid equipment and understand the concepts, but still kind of dialing in the bushing an mandrel stuff. Sometimes my shoulder bump takes a couple cases to get set. Sometimes I’ll have a randomly off bump even after set.

Sometimes my CTBO is off by 3-4 thou even though I’m using annealed, bushing and mandreled brass fired from my gun that was trimmed on an RCBS Matchmaster and seating with a Forester micrometer seating die.

Curious if it’s me or brass inconsistency.

Long Range Course | Suggestions?

Hey fellas,

Im interested in taking a long range course and I was wondering if any of you had any recommendations I could look into. I understand the basics of long range and I shoot competitively so im hoping to find something that is above beginner, but below advanced.

I am located in Abilene, TX, but would be willing to travel for the right course.

Proper Inside Chamfer

Hi,

I was hoping someone might be able to show me an example of what a properly chamfered inside case mouth looks like?

Not sure if there is a hard an fast rule, but the Google machine isn't really producing much in the way of example images.

Edit: Sorry, I should have put this picture on when I made the post. Coffee hasn't activated yet.

Pro Tips Wanted | New Dies | 6.5 Creedmoor

Howdy!

I searched the forums, but wasn't really able to come up with much on the topic... maybe I did it wrong....

I have decided to get some new dies for my 6.5 Creedmoor as I go further down the precision rabbit hole.

I know I want a bushing die, a mandrel die, and a seating die with micrometer.

I was looking at the Redding Type S for the bushing and seating... im not sure if they make a mandrel die.

I was also looking at the SAC dies.

There is quite the price difference between the two and generally im a big advocate of "you get what you pay for" that said I thought it would be prudent to ask the pros here a couple questions.

  1. Is the cost difference worth it, or is it a factor of diminishing returns
  2. Are there any other brands/types I should be looking at that you think would be better for me?

My press is a Forester Co-ax

Optic Advice (PRS)

Hi Guys,

I was wondering if I could shoot PRS with a Nx8 2.5-20 or would I end up wanting to upgrade later?

I was eyeing the Gen iii Razor 6-36, but I can snap this Nx8 up for a BIG discount... but I dont want to do that if it would be a suboptimal optic for PRS purposes.

Anyways, I appreciate your thoughts.

Tracking Firings | How do you do it?

Hi guys,

How are you tracking your firings on your brass? I have seen that some people mark them different ways, but my marks keep coming out in the wash.

Also, how do you know when it is time to "retire" a brass?

Results and Thanks

Hey fellas,

Took the advice that I have been given from the group on load development for my Rise Armament 6Arc (gas gun) and was able to find a couple of sub MOA loads on my load testing.

Going to load some more for them and shoot a couple of 20 shot groups now.

Just wanted to say thanks for all the tips and advice!

I was wondering though. Do you count your cold bore shoot in your group measurements?

Properly Annealed?

Hoping for some guidance on annealing. Does this look like it’s been properly annealed? It was glowing for maybe .5secs

Measuring The Lands

Measured to the lands in my bolt action 6.5CM and got 2.2680

This is too long for the magazine (ACIS)

The manual says my COAL should be 2.800 and my ogive for that measures 2.1500

I’m not quite sure what to do from here. Any guidance yall can offer?

6mm ARC Brass-- Price Diff

Howdy,

Never used A.M brass before, but I have heard people like it. Is it really worth TRIPLE the price compared to Hornady/Starline?

Mandrel Resizing Dies--- Question

Any recommendations on who makes a solid mandrel resizing die? I've looked at SAC and Cortina Precision

Seems to be quite the price range on these and idk much about them other than their function.
