I started collecting lasers nearly 20 years ago. These are all DIY builds. In total, I have 18 different visible wavelengths, most of them are shown here.

Finally got around to cleaning my bike and taking some photos of the indicators I made from offcuts of brass. I approximately the teardrop shape in the stock hardware with a couple of intersecting circles and tangents, and needed tonmake a couple custom fixtures for milling them on the rotary table. After that, the rest was straightforward and was done on the fly. I used 12V amber LED strips for the lighting and skipped the white running lights. The LEDs are sealed with 2-part silicone. They will develop a patina over time, as brass does, but a little wax staves it off. Over time I'll replace most of the other aluminum accents on the bike with brass parts to match the wheels. The 2021 color scheme isn't my favorite, but it's grown on me these 5 years.
These were pretty fun to make and I think they turned out ok, but I'm already planning v2 with a matching set for the rear.
Hey everyone. I'm attempting to repair my 2016 XT250. Long story short I have about 30k miles on it, trails and highway but it stalled one day and didn't start again. I drained the oil to find bits of aluminum and steel, possibly the camshaft chain guide as well. I took the whole bike apart and found deep gouges where it looks like the chain was slapping around. The inside of the chain is also pretty chewed up but the sprocket looks OK. I have 2 questions:
What else do I need to inspect and replace (e.g. bearings, camshaft)?
How did this happen? Did I neglect some maintenance task that could have prevented it?

I came across these images while organizing some old photos. I lost the M16 somewhere in the desert while backpacking and the M21 was lost somewhere in BC or Alberta while I was working around the rocky mountains mist netting birds during grad school. Oh, and building lasers is one of my other hobbies.
