Kickr Rollr - slope/sim mode slow to respond, or is mine faulty?

Kickr Rollr - slope/sim mode slow to respond, or is mine faulty?

I've been a Wahoo trainer customer for a long time. I don't have the luxury of a dedicated training room, so taking the wheel off before every session and putting it back afterward was never practical for me. That's why I started on a Kickr Snap and switched to a Kickr Rollr about three years ago. Overall I'm happy with the Rollr concept - it's quick to set up and easy to live with.

There's one thing that bugs me, though, and I never experienced it with the Snap. In ERG mode (FTP-based workouts) everything works perfectly. But in slope/sim-based workouts, or when re-riding GPX routes, it sometimes takes more than 2 minutes before the trainer actually ramps up the resistance. On shorter climbs I occasionally get through the whole hill without ever feeling it get harder.

I still get a solid workout, but it often feels like something isn't quite right. So my question for other Rollr owners: do you experience the same lag in slope/sim mode, or does this sound like a faulty unit? And if it's likely a hardware issue, what's the best way to go about getting it looked at?

For context, I train with Rouvy. I also used to use another slope-based app (TrainerDay) but stopped, partly because the slope workouts were unreliable (slow response; it didn't make sense to continue to pay).

(The attached screenshot shows the slope increasing from 0% to 3% with no real change in my effort - the white line is my power. It's from a TrainerDay app, but the post isn't about that app; I'm just including it to illustrate what I'm experiencing.)

Kickr Rollr - resistance not tracking slope on routes with short hills (Rollr owners on Rouvy?)

I've been a Wahoo trainer customer for a long time and train with Rouvy since the beginning (when it was still called VirtualTraining). I don't have the luxury of a dedicated training room, so taking the wheel off before every session was never practical - that's why I started on a Kickr Snap and switched to a Kickr Rollr about three years ago. Overall I'm happy with the Rollr, and Rouvy has been great for keeping routes interesting.

There's one thing that bugs me, though, and I never experienced it with the Snap. In ERG-style structured workouts everything works fine. But when I'm riding a route in Rouvy, especially ones with short, punchy hills, the resistance often doesn't seem to copy the route's slope. It sometimes takes more than 2 minutes before the trainer actually ramps up, so on shorter climbs I'll get through the whole hill without ever feeling it get harder. By the time the resistance catches up, I'm already past the climb.

I still get a solid workout, but it often feels like the gradient on screen and what my legs feel don't match.

So my question for other Rollr owners riding Rouvy: do you see the same thing on routes with short hills, resistance lagging behind or not really following the slope? Or does this sound like a faulty unit on my end? And if it's likely hardware, what's the best way to go about getting it looked at?
