a couple years ago i was on a big ride with my cone shovel and it started burning oil real bad and fouling plugs super fast. i figured head gasket or blow by, no biggie. i swapped in a diff motor and shelved it til a couple weeks ago.
two weeks ago i threw in some new head gaskets and looked at the valves and valve guides and seals while i was in there, everything looked fine. new head gaskets went on, bike fired right up and ran great for about 50 miles.
the next day, started burning oil realll bad and fouling plugs with oil. when i popped the push rod covers they were FULL of oil. like the whole top end was flooded with oil. i thought for sure i had clocked the head gaskets wrong and blocked the oil return through the cylinders. but nope, all that is good. i took off the cylinders and the oil holes are were not clogged up
i clocked the breather, that’s right. i looked at the oil pump and the keys are still there and working. the bottom end had the right amount of oil, if it was a return issue i assumed that bottom end would be brimmed.
how am i getting so much oil pressure to the top end, no return to the bottom end, and burning so much oil?? i could be getting blow by still, but im puzzled by the shear amount of oil in the push rod covers
69 gen shovel i’ve put thousands of miles on. not without some breakdowns but i think it’s pretty dialed now.
