How long does it take for crops to die?

I have a field of like 20 garlic that haven't been over -20 degrees in like an in-game month and not a single one of them have died. I had rye next to it that died after only like a few days of <-10 degrees.

Edit: When I logged back into the world all the crops were finally dead. I had been standing basically AFK next to them for most of that month so maybe they just needed the chunks to reload or something? Idfk.

Where to find rosewood?

The first few times I played TFC I found rosewood pretty much everywhere. I got hooked on the color, and now I find it hard to enjoy a palette without it. I tried making several new world with ArborFirmaCraft, though, and now I can't find it anywhere. Does AFC change the generation? I tried looking for what climates it generates in but couldn't find any up-to-date information.

How do I make short "people" intimidating?

I have a viking/Icelandic Commonwealth/libertarian strawman/pirate nation in my setting and the majority race there is halflings. Unfortunately, halflings are short and I'm racist towards short "people" so I'm having trouble taking the idea of halfling vikings seriously. Like, imagine them trying to negotiate a village's surrender and the diplomat has to bend down to hear them. And what would the halflings do if the village doesn't surrender? Tie their shoelaces together? Poke them with spears they can barely carry? C'mon.

The best idea I have is just to avoid the problem by adding non-halfling natives to the region that the halflings interbreed with when they first settle there and so have offspring of respectable height.

What makes Neutron Cruisers so effective?

I got my ass kicked in my first fleet battle with the Xenophile Fallen Empire and tried out the Neutron Cruisers I've heard so much about out of desperation. My 66k fleet met their 310k fleet by accident and I thought it was dead, but it actually managed to win, if only barely.

To be clear, my cruisers had Kinetic Artillery, Neutron Launchers, a Stormfire Autocannon, and Plasma Cannons for weapons, then Artillery Computer, Auxiliary Fire-Control, 7 Armor, and 1 Shield.

What makes them punch so far above their weight? Do they have any weaknesses I should know?

Right before my setting's equivalent to the Age of Sail, there are three major powers in a certain region: the Sathid Sultanate, the Sacrosanct Tjantahtic Imperium, and the United Peasant Republics of Cennor (no points for guessing which is the "good guys"). They've been locked in a centuries-long three-way proxy war over religion and ideology, and the resulting arms races mean they're basically tied for "best nation on the planet at killing people." So when the Age of Sail starts, the Sultanate and Imperium start forming colonial empires. The UPeRC electorate, though, really doesn't want to get hit with the imperial boomerang, but they also don't like their odds against two imperial world powers without "spreading their influence" themselves.

The best way I can think of for them to get the best of both worlds would be to try to form a military alliance with the world's minor powers, but that seems like it would a) easily turn into a protection racket and b) stretch the UPeRC's capabilities thin unless their allies went through a rapid transition to a proto-industrial economy.

So, how do I have my setting's "good guys" do vegan colonialism without making it come across as condoning actual colonialism? I'm a white American man if that helps for context.
