I built a Cyberpunk-themed "Air Mouse" for macOS using Python and MediaPipe. No hardware needed!
Hey everyone! I wanted to share a project I've been working on called Mac Air Mouse.
It uses your webcam to track hand landmarks and maps them to system-level controls. I’ve added a cinematic HUD overlay because I wanted that 'Minority Report' aesthetic while I work.
Features:
☝️ Index Pointing: Smooth cursor movement with a 'Precision Mode' near window buttons.
🤏 Pinching: Left-click.
✌️ Two-Finger Slide: Vertical scrolling.
✊→🖐 Gestures: Transition from fist to palm to maximize windows or palm to fist to quit apps.
🖥 HUD: Real-time scan lines, glow effects, and gesture labels.
📢 I know there are many tools like this, but this one includes features others don’t.
For example, the cursor sensitivity decreases when it moves over small UI elements like buttons, making navigation easier. I’ve kept the code user-friendly so anyone can modify it without headaches. It also includes combo gestures, which you’ll notice while using the script.
The best part is palm rejection—if you accidentally wave your left hand while controlling with your right, it ignores the left hand input, making control much more precise.
It works on both Intel and ARM Macs.
Try it out and give feedback—it actually helps improve it.
It’s optimized for macOS and runs on Python 3.11. I'd love to hear what you guys think or what gestures I should add next!

Intel MacBook Pro (T2) + Arch Linux: Worth It or Just Broken Drivers and Sleep Issues?
I have a MacBook Pro A2141 (Intel i7, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD), and after the recent macOS Tahoe 26.4.1 update, the performance has noticeably degraded. The system feels sluggish, thermal throttling has become aggressive, and the fans ramp up constantly. While fan noise itself isn’t the main issue, the throttling makes even light gaming (through CrossOver) frustrating and inconsistent.
Because of this, I’m seriously considering switching to Arch Linux. I’m already familiar with Arch since I’ve used it for about a year on another machine, so learning curve isn’t a concern.
The problem is the T2 chip. From what I’ve researched (T2 Linux compatibility docs, forums, videos), driver support is incomplete. Things like Wi-Fi, audio, touchbar, and especially power management either don’t work properly or require workarounds. The biggest concern is stability — issues like sleep not working when closing the lid, system panics on wake, and needing forced restarts.
I’ve seen multiple people report the same problems, which makes me question whether this setup is actually usable as a daily driver or just a broken experiment.
I genuinely like this machine — the build quality, keyboard, and especially the trackpad are top-tier. I don’t want to replace it since the hardware itself is still solid. I just want a stable, performant OS without macOS slowing everything down.
So I need honest input:
Is running Arch Linux on a T2 MacBook Pro actually practical in 2026, or am I setting myself up for constant issues and instability?
Need help im cooked
OK So i have a mac a2141,16gb ram,512gb ssd and i7 , yeah its an intel mac(T2 chip). Due to the last intel mac update of Mac os 28 my mac is doomed it got slowed down and tbh i want to switch to arch linux but there are 2 issues as of now.Its my primary machine and only machine all i do is run vm's,VS code and games. So i need someone who can help me with the dual booting of arch linux and kali linux (is that even possible T_T).Kali linux because im learning about the cybersecurity and networking related , Arch for programming and gamming. Also i want to completely remove this shi** mac os.
