horizon university rant

I used to study at Skyline (now Horizon) because it was in University City, Sharjah. It was close to my home, the area was nice, and overall it was just super convenient.

Then out of nowhere, they told us the campus was shutting down because of a lease issue. We were basically told we'd have to transfer to another university like the University of Sharjah or Al Qasimia. Skyline said that if we transferred to the University of Sharjah, they'd arrange everything using our existing tuition fees.

So I went to the university to ask what I needed to do, and honestly the staff acted like I was the reason the campus was closing 💀. I completed all the transfer procedures, paid AED 3,000 for the transfer fee to the University of Sharjah, and another AED 100 for the required medical test.

Then suddenly Skyline announced they got approval to reopen in Ajman instead. At that point they told us our only options were either:

  • continue with Skyline in Ajman, or
  • pay the FULL tuition ourselves if we still wanted to transfer to the University of Sharjah.

Like... what?? We had already gone through the whole transfer process because of THEIR closure. It genuinely felt like we were trapped.

We then had to move to the Ajman campus, which is around a 45-minute drive from my house. On top of that, we lost about six months while they were sorting everything out, so half our academic year was basically wasted.

When the Ajman campus finally opened, it was honestly disappointing. It felt cramped, there was barely any parking, no space to move around, and it looked more like a small institute than a university. Our old campus had a gym, stadium, and much better facilities. Despite giving us way less, they still charged the exact same tuition. We're talking over AED 200,000+ in tuition fees.

The student services department made everything worse. They were rude most of the time and didn't seem to care about the stress students were dealing with. They also make students pay tuition in advance before allowing access to class schedules. Even after paying, the schedules sometimes had missing courses or terrible timings that created even more problems.

To make things worse, the student portal even went down the day before exams, so students couldn't access important information when they needed it the most.

Kannur marriage customs

You could phrase it like this:

I wanted to share an insider perspective on marriage customs in Kannur, because I feel like many people outside the district aren’t aware of them.

In many families here, after marriage the husband stays at the wife’s family home instead of the wife moving away. The bride remains in the home she grew up in, close to her support system, while the husband is welcomed into the household and often receives very special treatment (sometimes called puzhapala treatment). Family members may prepare his favourite foods and make efforts to accommodate his preferences. He can also visit his own family whenever he wishes and return later.

Another custom is that after the nikkah, the groom is expected to bring a suitcase containing essentials and gifts for the bride—things like toiletries, home wear, prayer items, shoes, abayas, party wear, jewellery, and other necessities. In some families, an additional suitcase of clothes and gifts is brought for members of the bride’s extended family as well.

Personally, I find the aspect of the bride being able to remain in her own home very practical and comforting, especially when compared with stories of women having to adjust to entirely new environments after marriage. Of course, every system has its pros and cons, and not every family follows traditions in the same way, but I was curious to hear others’ opinions on this custom.

And if you’re posting it online and want to invite discussion without starting arguments, you could end with:

This isn’t meant to say one system is superior to all others—just sharing a cultural practice from Kannur that I personally appreciate. What do you think about it? Would you prefer this arrangement, or do you see drawbacks to it?

I actually think it’s an interesting discussion. Some people would see it as more supportive of women because they don’t have to leave their home, parents, and familiar environment. Others might point out that a husband could feel like a guest in his wife’s home or that not every family dynamic is healthy. Like most traditions, it probably works best when both partners genuinely want that arrangement rather than following it out of obligation.

Hi everyone I’m really desperate and hoping for advice or help. My cat had a tiny hole near her anal area i took her to vet which already cost me 100 aed and they just checked her and told me shes suffering from an anal rupture/infection . They said she needs surgery which costs around 4000 AED, which I honestly cannot afford right now and i felt he wanted to milk my money. They didn’t provide much treatment even though i asked for injection. i seacred chatgpt and it told me antibiotics injections and possible cleaning/flushing might be needed, but the cost is also very high for me at the moment. My cat is clearly in pain and I can't stand it shes a old cat around 7 years old. i didnt buy her i got her from a friend who gave her up because they were leaving dubai. i feel stuck because I don’t want her to suffer, but I also can’t pay the full cost immediately.

I’m looking for:

Any low-cost vet clinics in UAE (Sharjah/Ajman)

Any rescue groups or charities that can help with emergency vet care

Advice on whether there are temporary treatments to keep her stable until I can afford surgery ( i brought an oinment)

I’m not trying to avoid treatment, i just genuinely cannot afford the full cost upfront right now.

I can share photos, reports, or bills if needed please help me if you can.
