How are Your Steam Highwayman Adventures going in May?

How are Your Steam Highwayman Adventures going in May?

If you've been playing Steam Highwayman this month, I hope they've been going well. Or at least in a memorable way!

Steam Highwayman is an open-world series set in alternate steam-age Britain. It's the 100 Endings Book Club read for May.

So have you been ambushing the rich to give to the poor? Joined the Compact to foment revolution? Raced in the Spencer Cup? Gone to prison? Gone to the big city? Ridden in an airship?

Steam Highwayman - Getting Started in Highways and Holloways (book 2)

For Steam Highwayman, book 2 Highways and Holloways is the best one to start in. It's more polished / extensive than Smog & Ambuscade and 'friendlier' than the mean streets of book 3.

I've created Getting Started in Highways and Holloways, focusing on 5 starting ventures, 5 places to visit and 5 further adventures. These only need this book and there's some other SH tips too. This is the 2nd one, following on a guide to book 1.

SH books don't get harder (some open-world series do), and it's much like Smog & Ambuscade (on the Thames, English countryside) just larger and deeper. Steam Highwayman is our May read for the 100 Endings Book Club.

Any other tips or advice you'd give for Highways & Holloways or Steam Highwayman?

Steam Highwayman is an open-world series, and like most of these can be hard to get started.

I've created Getting Started in Smog & Ambuscade (book 1), focusing on 5 starting ventures, 5 places to visit and 5 further adventures. These only need this book and there's some other SH tips too.

Steam Highwayman books don't get intentionally harder (unlike Fabled Lands and Legendary Kingdoms), so Books 2 and 3 can be better starting places (more polished). Steam Highwayman is our May read for the 100 Endings Book Club.

Any other tips or advice you'd give for Smog & Ambuscade or Steam Highwayman?

The Steam Highwayman series by Martin Barnabas Noutch is an open-world series (in a similar manner to Fabled Lands). Set in alternative steam-age Britain, going from book to book and back again.

It's our May read for the 100 Endings Book Club. Best option is playing with the physical books. There are 3 published and you can start in any (they don't get harder like other series)

There are many ways to play it, from ruthless robber to aspiring revolutionary to rich scoundrel or steam mechanic (there's a workshop you can set up in Book 3).

It's my favourite gamebook series so I'm biased. Leave a comment here or join us on the Discord if you've got thoughts or questions!

Went to make my Realm with hex paper and realised I don't have any!

What are favourite tools for creating a ditigal version of an existing map?

Fighting Fantasy books by Steve Jackson (UK) was the April theme for the 100 Endings Book Club, choosing both House of Hell and Creature of Havoc as our reads.

Both area classics of Fighting Fantasy, both are very tough gamebooks. House of Hell is known for it's horror tropes, atmosphere and modern day setting. Creature of Havoc is a unique gamebook where you're playing a monster, with some puzzles to figure out.

I (after many attempts) finally managed to get to the end of Creature of Havoc, having never managed it when younger!

How did House of Hell and/or Creature of Havoc go for you?
