I think there was a printing error on the box, so maybe that's why it's 24$ cad?

Bought a used GPU and now artifacts

I have an HP Z420. I recently bought a used GTX 1660 OC used from a friend for $100 CAD. I installed a dual 6 pin to 8 pin adapter to connect to the gpu and it worked perfectly. Now for a few days (5 days the maximum) it worked and could idle all day with occasional use like playing games etc but 2 weeks ago I opened my browser and it artifacted. Now I had no idea what went wrong because I had installed it correctly so I reseated it, same thing. Next day I reinstalled the drivers and it was a temporary fix, tested it out by making some pictures on Pixlr X and it worked for a bit but 2 hours after turning it on it shut off. I bought some thermal paste and pads (Arctic MX-4 and Gelid GP-Extreme 1mm and 3mm) and put them in my GPU. Now I did notice something, the fan and heatsink are kind of slanted in a way where one side is higher than the other but I brushed it off. Now I test ran it today and it worked again for just 2 hours. Now I suggest there might be something wrong with my thermal pad choice or a deeper root of cause but I'm not too sure so I came here cause I'm 13 and clearly I haven't had enough experience with hardware to know my problem and I rely on this system since a new PC is out of my budget so yeah
